Driving through town tomorrow, if I only have the time/tolerance for 1 on-site bottle, which stout should I get? (Looks like they've got D10, and the Ruby Port and Tawny Port Double Barrel Derivations for the on-site list). Any recs appreciated!

I was a big fan of D10. I didn’t have either of the wine barrel DB’s but if that’s your thing then you can’t go wrong.

DBD, D10 is not the greatest imo.

D10 if you’re a coffee person. if not, go with one of the DB Derivations.

Might be able to ask around and share the bottle you choose with someone else that has the bottle(s) you didn't choose? Get the best of both worlds?

@marshy21 also, don’t discount D10. it is a great beer. tons of coffee. subtle vanilla and just enough rum. not as thick as other derivations (although i thought D9 and DB VSOP were also not as thick as other Derivations) but still very thick compared to all other stouts out there.

I may be in the minority but I prefer D10 to the DB Derivations. Not sure why D10 gets so much hate.

D10 is way better than what it gets credit for. my guess is it’s a classic example of StL people being spoiled rotten. that said, VSOP DB was excellent. blew the OG DB out of the water.

I really liked D10, not my favorite D but still excellent. I suspect that if the batch had been much smaller, and on site bottles only available for a short period of time, D10 would be more highly regarded.

messed up that those circumstances would change how the beer is perceived but i suspect you’re right.

There’s also the situation of wild bottle variation.

Some are green pepper bombs, some are vanilla bombs.

i’ve heard that too, but of the 5 or 6 bottles i’ve split none have had a ton of vanilla.

This is true for me. First time I had D10, I got a lot of green pepper. Second time, much much better and no green pepper at all.

A little late, but if anyone is at the Cellar and ordering D10 and wants to trade for a pour of Anabasis, find me in red plaid shirt at long table in middle.

Shared my umpteenth (7-8th) bottle of D10 yesterday at the cellar, and same delicious huge coffee with nice sweet marshmallow fluff on the backend. Every bottle I've had was fantastic.

Anyone able to confirm if either the brewery or cellar are open today?
