    Schlafly Tap Room is downtown. Great food and beer

    Also consider checking out Heavy Riff and Modern, both are pretty close to 2nd Shift/SP. If you go to Heavy Riff, they do good BBQ with the smoked pork chili verde over pineapple cornbread being my favorite.

    This should be in the perennial thread. Im a member of the society and we havent herd anything yet. Last year it was released to memebers and then only a picture tweet/silent release at the brewery.

    Is PN6 still available this weekend to go?

    Also a Perennial question since I can't find the Perennial thread: they show stout available to go today on their Instagram. What are the chances of Maman, Sump, or Abraxas being available to go tomorrow?

    They opened at 1pm so I'd say yes, they are good about keeping this up to date.

    Already a line and slim chance Maman makes it anywhere near the end of the line :flushed:

    I know this is a SP thread, but since the Maman thing came up I figure this is fair game. Everyone is entitled to run their business how they see fit, but this last minute Maman drop leaves me with a bad impression. I was there for the first release, and I did get a bottle, so I have no complaint about that, but they turned a lot of people away that afternoon, from a day+ advance notice release, because they didn't have enough bottles.

    If I were one of the people that didn't get a ticket that day, I'd be pretty disappointed in Perennial releasing it again, knowing full well the people at the front of the line today were the same people at the front of the line that day. It is what it is, and it didn't affect me either way, I knew there was no way I could get there with last minute notice this time, but I can see how people would be frustrated.

    Let's keep this as a Side Project "release" thread.

    Wonder what the can limits are tomorrow. That pic looks straight OJ.

    I'd bet it's a pretty nice limit, and the weather is amazing today. Should be fun.

    Actually curious on what the turnout at opening will be since a lot of the regular people are going to Narrow Gauge first

    Everyone is allowed to their opinion, but it's kind of an odd thing to complain about. I was there and didn't get a Maman and wasn't mad. From the looks of the tickets handed out, there were less than 50 bottles allocated. I actually commend them for surprising people with a great beer out of nowhere.

    As far as the people in the front of the line go, it isn't right to judge them either. Most find this as a hobby and it's fair game after the tweet. It's no different than any other thing being sold. As someone below called them, "the usual suspects"...without those people , breweries wouldn't be in business. Don't be mad because you didn't get a beer, because after all it is just beer.

    Lol. So... Your argument is that without the folks flipping bottles from SP, Perennial (stouts only), and to a much lesser extent Four Hands, these breweries wouldn't exist. That's somewhat fair, sure. Should I take a picture of the people up front and then link to their secondary market listings where Maman is currently out there for 250-500 bucks? Is that what it's going to take?

    This has absolutely nothing to do with being 'shut out' of additional bottles previously released. This is about the state of this hobby in STL, and the over emphasis on the part of a few breweries to rely on hardcore flippers to fund their expansion efforts, generate hype, and shut out the casual beer drinker to the point where you now have the WSJ and the New York Times talking about people in line for 12 hours for an IPA produced on the east coast that was produced in small quantities to intentionally generate hype for marketing purposes when the base product was OK at best.

    This stopped being 'just beer' two-three years ago when people saw that they could illegally flip bottles of beer for a ridiculous profit with impunity. Kudos to SP for selling out in an hour of a hazy IPA but let's take a step back here for a second. Why did this happen? This isn't 2013. This isn't 2014, etc. We have so many other options in this market for superior or at the very least very very similar product (here's looking at you Narrow Gauge) but still people waited on line for a more expensive product that they've never tried, from brewers they were very likely unfamiliar with on the premise of what? Rarity? Haze? What is going on here?

    <Googles Proof of Concept Beer>
    <Finds listings immediately ranging from 40-60 dollars>

    Ah, that makes sense.

    It also could be that people want to try the first pale ale from "side project," and that it was a small batch since they didn't know how may people would show up. The line only went from the garage to the side walk, there weren't that many people. I'm also pretty sure 4 16 oz cans for $16 is cheaper than a 32 oz $10-$14 crowler.

    First off, SP and Perennial make REALLY good beer. People flipping beer is a thing for ALL good breweries, not just St. Louis. So it is going to happen. Cory tries his best to stop it, because it is well known he hates the practice. Perennial is doing a pretty good job at it with the 0 notice releases. That pretty much means "locals only" get the good stuff. And you know what? There are good local people that actually like the beer, a.k.a. don't go to releases to make a profit.

    I'm sorry you have such a negative slant on what is going on in the beer world today. There is great stuff being made from all around the country. Even in St. Louis.

    Lastly, LOL to the "to a much lesser extent Four Hands". That's rich. Should've said "to a much lesser extent Madagascar".

    This is my last comment before the release thread gets even more sidetracked than it is....But, No, that's not my argument at all. Perennial and SP make badass beer and it's going to sell regardless of who's front in the line. My point is those people are supporting the brewery either way and purchasing the bottles..therefore creating business. If they choose to flip the bottles , that's up to the brewery on how to handle, not someone who isn't affiliated with the brewery. I will agree it sucks but you can't worry about something outside of your control .

    You are not the beer police and because you feel you got cheated, your entitlement doesn't count in this scenario. The issue with the beer scene is entitled people who think they are owed everything. Like the guy behind me in line yesterday mad because Cory didn't bring him a proof of concept to try early.. Like , Seriously?!?! Or the other guy I saw punch a brick wall because he didn't get a fuzzy magnum ticket at a previous release. He said he's been to every release and "deserves" that bottle.

    Alternatively, it's no different than any other commodity that's released similarly ( Beer, Concert Tickets, Sporting Tickets, Shoes ) Even people flip cars and houses. If there's a chance to make profit, flippers will flip.

    I can also guarantee the Kings and the Wymores are aware of this and actively combat it. I've seen Cory turn people away from his releases for razzling his beer. I am certain they also have mole accounts in the FB threads and other mediums to monitor activity too when time permits.

    I am also not sure what your point is about bottle flippers funding brewery expansions either. That sounds like pure speculation , at best.

    And the reason it sold out is because SP is one of the best breweries in the world. Even is it has hype, it's delicious and you can't deny that. It's the same reason why you line up for beer. people want a product from a known brewery. I'm sure if you were new car shopping, you'd have cars in mind you wanted and car manufacturers you wouldn't even consider. It's the same thing!

    Even if people are unfamiliar with the new brewers, they're still employed by Cory and are top-notch. Brian is from Goose Island and worked in their barrel program and Tommy is the former head brewer at perennial, so questioning their ability to make beer is ridiculous. Cory wouldn't have hired them.

    Lastly, contrary to what you said, the price point is actually cheaper than Narrow Gauge. They were 16oz cans for $4 a piece, which is $8 for 32 oz. The cheapest 32oz crowler I see on their site is $10, so please don't spread misinformation. I am a huge Narrow Gauge fan too and will continue to go there as much as I can, but I will also patronize SP and Perennial too. They all make good beer, so go enjoy it instead of complaining about being left out.

    I would actually be interested in knowing who these individuals are. Most of the folks who I know that are always up front are drinking their bottles or sending them to RTPs.

    Hello everyone. I just got interested in Side Project (living in CT). Can anyone tell me first dibs on this brewery? Do they only do limited releases? Do they sell bottles at the brewery outside limited releases? Do they have a regular beer that they brew year round?
