Same thing happened the last few years, I get excited for an email, no barleywine, no stout, only sours…. They got me again

 

Don't think we have had any true barleywine this year. Not a one.

Curious what other folks think about this especially considering recent adjuncts haven’t exactly hit home.

 

12 doesn't have any adjuncts in it. If anything, its the Amburana barrel that gives me pause. However, that barrel isn't mentioned in the short but is in the description on the blog page.

 

The Amburana barrel going unmentioned in the video makes me a little less concerned. I'm not quite as averse to those flavors as many folks seem to be, though — so I can certainly understand the trepidation.

Perhaps the omission is a hint that the Amburana was applied with merely a gentle touch, dare I say ... thoughtfully?

The way CK highlighted the marmalade notes from Anabasis, as well as the inclusion of Grand Marnier barrels, makes me more curious about how orange-forward it'll be...

Yep - the girls behind the bar at stout week corrected me when I pronounced it (probably) the same way you did. I still say it wrong all the time.

same, happened to me a couple years ago

me: "Hey! Can I get a pour of the Ann-uh-BASS-sis?"
bartender guy: "Huh? Oh... you mean the uh-NAB-uh-sis..?"
me: *visibly hurt feelings*

 

Therein lies my only pause with trying that blend, but perhaps they've figured out a more tasteful way to work in Amburana barrels in both the aging and blending process. It seems like the whiskey world is really starting to harness that wood's barrel character better.

The short from SP makes that blend sound really good. It's not something I'll chase, but it's certainly something I'll be interested in hearing about more, or even trying should it be available during a visit.

 

This is the only true way to pronounce it.

Cory cut a promo (I made him a wrestler) re: Hazel Ave. Sounds like it's a horchata base. Not sure if that was known or not (or at least, I hadn't seen that before - sorry of the info is duplicative.

 

That’s just the name of the base stout recipe. It’s a super confusing name to be sure but it does not contain any flavor additives (i.e., horchata adjuncts).

I love how that video started out “hey… coming to you from our barrel room” but it’s a non-BA stout..

All that said, my sweet tooth is saying “yes”’for this one.

 

No Library Chapter 2 yet. Still doing Chapter 1 to go. Other guaranteed bottle is OWK 2023.
