Man, I drank a bottle of shin shin night of release and kbbs 4 days later. I thought shin shin was very maple forward and little coffee compared to kbbs. And for $25 more I’d rather the kbbs.
I haven't had KBBS in some time, so it's hard for me to say how the maple/coffee compared between the two. Definitely no shortage of maple in Shin Shin, however, I felt the coffee was very dominant in that particular beer, especially upfront with the maple taking over more mid to back palate. I'm currently sitting on a '24 & '25 KBBS so I'm hoping to do a side by side by side with the last bottle of Shin Shin I have. Lots of people out there talking about Shin Shin being a KBBS killer but my first experience with it wasn't anything to write home about.
As someone that was at KBBS weekend 3 weeks ago, and have had it fresh, recently and repeatedly, this batch of Shin Shin did not compare to KBBS. But B1 was definitely in that conversation. Curious, though, to hear how your side by side goes.
I completely agree about the accessibility being a good thing but did chuckle at the email calling SP a beloved Bay Area brewery
This probably isn’t helping The option to purchase to-go bottles of vintage mixed fermentation and a special Library Tasting ONLY stout!
Yeah I didn't see the details of the tasting until after I bought a ticket. I'm cool with the mixed-ferm to-go (that just means ... a sour/saison right?) but that appears to also mean that the ever-elusive to-go OWK or MJK offerings are off the board. I'm hoping one or two will make an appearance in the tasting itself at least. As far as the Silent Barrels go, I'm excited to try some of these that I haven't. I hope their blended beers still make up the majority of the list though; blending is Side Project's greatest strength IMO! Either way, whoever pulls the trigger on a ticket (they're still available) — I'll see you there.
Completely understand some being put off by the non-stout offerings, but the events are a blast regardless of what's available to-go. Between the bottle pours and the available food, it's not hard to get the value back. My idiot friend and I will be there with bells on. Fingers crossed for some old saisons.
Wish i could make it out for the Library Tasting, but I'll see y'all for stout week. BTW, Pulling Nails 17 and Grasshopper Parfait both up on tavour as well. $35 / $22, respectively.
