STL folks - I'm going to be coming in to town on 11/14 and plan on hitting up Side Project. Do you normally have to fight big crowds there? I was hoping to go around 7:00 p.m., but would I be better off trying for 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. in order to avoid crowds?

I appreciate any tips you can give. Thanks.

Weekends are busier but no real crowds. Since your coming for the Abraxas Day (I'm assuming), it may be busier than usual but you should be fine.

Awesome, thanks. And a correct assumption.

My only advice is to prepare your wallet. Nothing is really overpriced, as you get what you pay for, but the prices are more than you would expect at a bar or tasting room.

That being said, you are paying for their superior draught experience (24 taps, 3 temperatures) and their cellared beers. Their cellared beers have the best cellar quality of any beer I have come across. A steady 45-55 degrees F and you can really tell the difference in bottles such as a 1 year old Founders Imperial Stout; which tasted like it was from the tap in Grand Rapids.

This 100%. The prices are fair for what you get, but as an enthusiast I can promise its easy to get carried away with all the amazing options. I can speak from personal experience, stopping by for a quick beer can easily turn in to a $100 venture.

I disagree on the fair prices and I will not be visiting the cellar when in the area. Would be great if they posted how many ounces of beer they will pour next to the prices. Received a 5 oz pour of fermier for $9 and my wife received 5 oz of another sour for $8 in November lay year. I can get 10-12 oz pours in the bay area ca for the same price that are just as good. I don't want to discourage you, but if you fancy throwing your money and supporting their price gouging, go for it.

The prices may be more than you're accustomed to but the beers are incredible and then some!

Agree with the price commments. I dont think I have ever walked out for less than $100 (usually 2 bottles and a couple of drafts for 2 people) but I dont feel anything there is over priced but you definately pay for convience and quality. I dont know of any where else you can go a drink through some of the beers they have. Their bottles in my experience run from $20-50 for SP stuff. Unlabeled on the low end and Derivation's on the high end. They have an amazing celler list of not only SP beers but Belgians as well.

It is 100% worth checking out and is usually a really laid back environment. Being Abraxas day it could get packed.

    Have fun.

I have never gotten a 5oz pour their. Everything in my experience is 7oz wine and sour glasses and up depending on style. Dont get me wrong its not a cheap bar but they never set out to be that. Its certianly not price gouging.

You won't know until that day what's available. Never disappoints. The routine tap list and cellar list are always fabulous. There is the occasional outrageous offering.

They do a pretty good job of keeping the draft list updated on their website.

But there are frequent add-ons on the chalkboard that don't get posted online. They do send out notices on Twitter (such as when they had Derivation 3 a few weeks ago).

Side project is great, but let's not pretend like it's also cheap.

Very expensive. Bottles of Derivation 3 were 50 bucks.

Obviously not that expensive since they sold every bottle?

For myself it's worth every penny and I'm a regular, but objectively it's expensive. Rolls-Royce and Ferrari sell out completely every year- does that make them not expensive?

Not to plug my own post, but like EvilCatfish and I agreed on above, you get what you pay for. It's not like it's $6 for a can of Busch Light.

It's great beer. There are other similar great beers that are half the price. I'll continue to buy both of them, but it's ok to note the price difference. Side project beer is expensive.

My belief is that if it ain't Busch Light, it ain't right!
