I don’t think anyone goes to that event or that type of event specifically for the bottle, but it matters at least a little to virtually everyone in attendance.

Note: that doesn’t mean chooses to go based on the bottle.

In other news, when do we think D12 will be released on-site? I cannot wait after wetting my palate at Zwanze. Also, will Cory skip Derivation 13 and just go straight to 14? Not sure if he is superstitious or just a little stitious. Also I miss Derivation 10 being available on site for a solid 10-months. I definitely took it for granted.

There's a reason D10 was onsite that long. Ignore ratings, the length of availability will tell you more about perceived value.

I don't care about "perceived value". I liked the beer and I thought it was delicious. What else matters? And why does how long it was onsite mean anything? D11 was onsite for a weekend and a couple of days here and there, but that doesn't mean that was because it sold out. You make these comments without any context of how many bottles were made of D10 versus any other Derivation. I am not comparing D10 to any other Derivation, just saying I miss having it as a go to whenever I popped in for a beer. To me everyone that craps on D10 represent the entitled boring beer drinkers that want every stout to be aged in rye whiskey barrels with vanilla beans. Some of us like variety.

On a different note, any insight into when D12 drops on-site? I for one think we will be skipping D13 and going straight to D14 (unless they plan on releasing D13 on halloween...imagine that). You heard it here first. Also super pumped about Kriek du Fermier coming back. Have anniversary week and stout week blocked off on my calendar, but need a little help making it further into fall and winter.

The word of this week is apparently entitlement.

i would guess D12 would be on-site some weekend this month. it sounds amazing to me. if not this month, then it’s probably being saved for BBT weekend.

i agree that it’s weird as hell to go to the cellar or the brewery and not see D10 on the menu. definitely had my fill but it was drinking so wonderfully “towards the end.” personally, i like it better than D11 but 1) idgaf about values and 2) i don’t care for straight vanilla in stouts. need something else to cover it up and that’s exactly what the massive coffee addition did. so even though it was rum and not bourbon / whiskey, which i would normally prefer, i definitely enjoyed it more than D11.

People like BBT because it's a great beer, and it doesn't have any adjuncts. When I had D10, it had had notes of green pepper and lacked characteristic Derivation qualities (mouthfeel, etc). I was really surprised it was released under that label with a $50 price tag. If you enjoyed it, more power to you.

D9, 10 & 11 are all thinner by SP standards. which is to say, still thicker than anything else out there (besides perennial maybe). i’d include BVC in that group too. at least D10 had lovely coffee notes. D9 is the clear winner out of all those though. i don’t remember BBT entering the conversation but at this point BBT is basically a non-adjunct Derivation in my mind.

D9 was delicious. Maybe their was bottle variation on D10, or maybe people perceived the same flavors differently. Most of the best beers I've ever had have been Side Project beers. All these things can be true.

I picked up similar notes with D10. Still a great beer, but I see where you're coming from. I got a little green pepper and I get a kind of mineral-y or "dirt" flavor from coffee brews from time to time. Maybe it was a combo of coffee and Rum barrels. IDK Pretty spoiled here in STL when we're picking apart Derivation, lol.

it’s okay to be critical but still be cognizant of the fact that you’re drinking cream of the crop.

This is the first time that I recall seeing Side Project distributed in STL. Now we know what those handles are for.

IIRC Cory worked at ITPAP at one time, so not sure if it will be all of STL or not. But good to see it in other places on tap.

Some of the more boutique places have gotten select drops of beer (draught & bottle) over the last year. Restaurants like Elmwood and Vicia both have had it, along with a few wine bars. I know I had Grissette on tap at Loafers not that long ago.
