Seems more like this person was putting people on blast without directly snitching on any specific person

Side Project could try to side-step the bots by changing the landing page URLs at the last minute, or installing re-directs to other pages. My line of work deals with onsales, and we employ similar things, just not on SquareSpace.

The frustrating part is bots will still recognize a captcha page and wait for the user to solve it manually, so the speed gained by the bot auto-adding and checking out is still an issue.

Wait...lol. I'm floored there weren't already measures to prevent bots.

The only thing that will ever really stop bots is when the bottles lose any secondary value.

Hey, what's wrong with a raffle? I feel like I'm rehashing 1/4 of the threads on BA right now, but I'd be in huge support of a raffle, especially if it:
    • Allocated 1/4 of bottles to locals
    • Allocated 3/4 of botles to anyone, where even locals can apply, but if you won as a local you can't win as an "anyone".
I don't think that'll ever happen, but I still think it's a good idea, and I appreciate that TG does it. Sucks when you lose, but hard to be upset unless you always have the quickest fingers in the west.

That SP Enthusiasts page is the worst thing to happen to facebook beer pages in a long time. People posting coming soon to a group of 2000 people minutes before a release seems like a great way to make sure you dont get one. Then you have the people with fake profiles calling out other people with fake profiles for selling beer... that page needs to absorb itself into its own b-hole.

why would locals that support the brewery year round and not just for big releases only get allocated 1/4 of the bottles in your proposal? I feel like it should be the other way around instead of getting more bottles in hands of people who have never been to the brewery and wouldnt consider buying 4pks or white labels if they weren't in packages with stouts/barleywines.

Make it 2/3 and 1/3; make it 1/2 and 1/2. The point isn't the distribution, the point is using a raffle system. I'd be very thrilled to only have a 20% chance. To be fair, I'm not sure it's actually locals that truly keep SP in business. I'd love to see what percentage of sales were from locals vs. out of towners. I'd be surprised if people that drive in aren't responsible for > 50% of sales. Maybe I'm wrong through.

Edit: For the record, I'd be ok with the raffle requiring in-person pickup, no proxies allowed. It'd just be nice to not have to fight a schedule that isn't practical for a large number of beer enthusiasts (online or old-school line up and wait).

I read on SB recently about FB pages devoted to nothing but truck chasing in Chicago for whiskey. They do the same thing - only it's blasting when a truck gets delivered, what's on it, schedules of what gets delivered where and when, etc. Pretty crazy.

Lotteries are trash and Cory & Rachel have made it pretty clear they’re not happening in the LC group.

If you do a lottery, it would have to be by a drivers licence number or something. Which, isn't that bad of an idea. If not, then there's no stopping someone from creating a shit load of email addresses and now you have yet another problem.

I'd rather race a bot than deal with a lottery any day of the week. Although apparently I'm already doing that.

    Because...?

Wonder how many people that actually get to land some allocated whiskey would be able to do so if not for a lottery.

I don't understand why people are against lotteries unless you or someone you know benefit from a lack of lotteries. I get it, the grass is always greener. I can understand how I might feel that way if I was always able to land some of these bottles. This comes from someone that appreciates all the shelfies that exists, and has specifically bought shelfies and traded for semi-shelfie sours for family and friends as gifts. I'm not a flipper, I'm a drinker. Just would be nice to actually have a chance to land some of the nice bottles.

I don’t like lotteries because I want to be able to control my own destiny. I very rarely win any sort of raffles but I can control how quickly I check out for a beer and have been successful mostly doing that minus bbt rye but that was for another reason altogether.

the only people who like lotteries are the people who win them. (obviously, that’s not me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

I like the destiny line... thats a good way to put it.

Call it selfish, but I've probably entered 20ish beer related lotteries and I've hit on exactly one... this years BA Abraxas which required a credit card to be on file. Not a fan of those odds when I live less than 30 minutes from both SP and Perennial and give them hundreds of dollars a year already.

obviously that last part has changed now w/ covid beer days... everyone is buying everything to go now for the most part.

    but the anti-lotto stance remains.
