Down to the last 3-4 cases of Bubble Wrap. If you're not already here, I wouldn't count on getting a bottle.

I don’t understand how 7 candles blew in 7 minutes at the cellar inside.

Genuine question to those more in the know and or any resellers on here, how do the resellers, local or otherwise, determine the $ value they put on some of these bottles like Bubble Wrap from today? I have zero interest in this bottle, but wondering how a $50+ bottle goes to a $250+ valuation?

I’m curious as well, but as someone who used to collect various items, my thought is basically - especially if you are at the front end - test the market based on all the different factors. It sold out in a day, but it was 2pp. Not BA (right?), so there’s a cap. But it is SP.

I feel like if you look back at other beers in the same category from SP, 250 isn’t a crazy starting point. Given how much was made though, $250 sounds pretty wild to me.

(Side comment: I am a bit taken aback they didn’t do this as a package. No good reason why not.)

Above it seemed to be 2pp and a person could could back through. I could have misread/misunderstood that post, but possible some people got 4, or more (?).

What are all the different factors for saying 5x retail is where it’s to start? Limits and being able to walk away with multiple would seem to lessen value, but by all means, toss up a number and I’m sure someone who wants the bottle enough will jump it at.

It's a Side Project stout. Literally all of them jump that high in secondary value. I don't think supply and demand has anything to do with it anymore, just always people willing to pay/trade that much.

What I don't get is why not limit to 1pp. Perennial had more of a limit on Abraxas than they did for this beer. 1pp means people in search of profit might not think it's worth their time and give people who might have real life obligations and a shot at it.

Okay, but how is one determining that number $? Mentioned previously, but simply pick a $ value and if someone pays it, that’s the value?

    Yes, that’s how economics works.

Limiting it to an on-site release really factors into the secondary value as well. More supply to fewer buyers. I'll freely admit that factored into my decision to buy 2 bottles--if I can enjoy one and use the other to land something I missed out on, that's a win-win. (I wouldn't have gone to 3, though, the $50 price point was steep.)

As far as allowing 2pp, it was available for almost 4 hours. The limit wouldn't have mattered at that point once people can go back through a second time. (I spotted a few guys walking around with 4+ bottles. Not judging, just commenting on the facts.) If the demand is there for that long on an in-person launch, SP just wants the inventory gone. Hard to blame them.

Came here to say the same thing. The question above is basically asking how the free market or supply/demand works. This isn’t a beer question, it’s an economics question.

To be fair, what @MattOC Os really asking is how does someone decide on a starting price. That’s not supply or demand. That’s not economics. That’s the start. How the market works so that supply and demand adjust to hit an equilibrium, and settles on a price - that is S&D. But that’s not Matt’s question. He’s just wandering how someone came up with $250.

John Hull captured this in 2019 citing Cory, while mentioning Hill, Floodland…Present Day to a greater degree

    Playing the Secondary Beer Market

Opportunistic sellers in the alcohol space are nothing new. It’s been commonplace in wine for decades. The same is true for spirits. But the craft-beer industry’s relative age coupled with an increasing number of small breweries that are creating world-class beers in limited quantities means there’s a demand for the supply. For those lucky enough to get their hands on a bottle or two, the temptation to sell it well beyond the MSRP is often a pull too strong to resist.

    Moksa touches on the opposition

Scaling/demand cart off that 2015 post

First and last candles day for me. That was dreadful. I still have to go back and pickup my credit card.

It was kinda weird that they never tapped anything new outside (besides the candles) when they had a bunch of kegs sitting there.
