I just grabbed a bottle of bubble wrap. End of the bar. Grey backwards hat. Yell if you want a pour. Name is Joe.

Woof. Great weekend. M.J.K. to start and end the day.

Now I need to not see or smell beer for awhile.

Glad I got to meet a couple more BA members too.

Finally getting to try MJK this weekend at The Cellar I have to say it exceeded my expectations, which were already very high. The balanced sweetness meshed with the barrel and the sticky texture. It’s also an impossibly smooth sipper for the ABV, no harsh ethanol on the nose whatsoever. That beer is a masterpiece.

Another fantastic trip to STL in the books. I’ll be back in the spring.

I too am not excited about drinking a beer for a while. Three days of hard boozing is getting tougher and tougher with age.

Was Oude Fermier on the menu last week at the Cellar and I missed it?

Otherwise, they just added it. If I was able to revisit, I'd love to finally try Oude Fermier. Sadly, a wedding will keep me from driving across the state. That's probably best for my liver and wallet though.

Woops. Clean missed that, but was too busy staring at BBT, MJK, and Bleuet du Fermier.

Guess it's one more reason to revisit SP when I get the chance.

I asked about the previously teased one at Zwanze. It was two select barrels of Oude Fermier. However the bottles randomly didn’t carb (like within a case some would be carbed but others would be flat) so it never got released.

Don’t recall if that old one was also labeled as 2019

RIP to the bottles we’ve lost due to no carb: Open Spaces b2, Fermier v19, and Kriek.

It was the same label. Fermier v19. I have the screenshot from 12/1/20.

Went down to pick up my BBT package today. Talked with two guys in front of me and got to sit with them to share their bottle of Bubble Wrap. Also had pours of BBT and MJK. Really enjoyed BBT. MJK was good but was expecting a little bit more. Bubble Wrap was solid but I thought had 1-2 too many adjuncts.

Still need to find the time to post about my experience at SP, as I said I would, but just wanted to add to this.

I liked MJK. It's a world class beer. It's an upper echelon BA BW no doubt. I really enjoyed it. I can understand why people would say it was 'the best BW they've ever had,' but I'm a bit perplexed by the comments I've read (in many places) that say, "it's the best one and it's not even close." Palates differ, obviously, and that's what makes beer (and whiskey and other spirits) so fun to compare and review, but it's hard to me to understand how someone can say it's not even close if they've had other world class barleywines. MJK wasn't appreciably different to me than several others that I have had, other than the ABV being so high (which actually really helped it. If the ABV had been, say 13-15%, I don't think it would have the same drinking experience, although I suspect the flavor wouldn't differ substantially).

Also, surprised there isn't more whiskey/barrel flavor, as I recall someone else noting.

It is good to know that you liked MJK and that taste is subjective.
