The earlier talk of saisons forced me to open a Grisette tonight with dinner. It paired well, but it has certainly lost something since fresh. It seems a little flat, a bit watery, and isn’t popping the way that I want it to. Not as sour as I remember. Overall, lots of flavor for 4%, but also I regret not drinking this fresh. My fault, of course. Also, I am reminded that while solid, I don’t think it edges out sofie, which is my cost comparison saison given it’s overall availability (although ability locally for me is not great). Granted it is a higher ABV, but I think it has loads more flavor for a much more competitive price. Won’t be disappointed when I inevitably buy 1 or end up with one in a package, but I also don’t intend to buy a case (per my comments earlier). This beer makes me miss La Ruche even more.

I don't know if you are doing this intentionally, but coming to the Side Project forum to say Goose Island Sofie is better than Side Project Grisette :poop:? This is like comparing apples to oranges comparing a belgian-style farmhouse ale to a grisette-style beer. Not all sours are the same. The only Grisette I have had that rivals Side Project is Clara from Hill Farmstead. Still the Side Project version deserves a spot on the Mt.Rushmore of Grisette's.

I posted above inquiring about what saisons were available from SP and affordable. Grisette and Biere du Pays were suggestions. I indicated that I thought those might be options, but was not sure if they fall into the same category when comparing to, for example, the HF “shelfies” like Arthur. I haven’t had a SP Grisette for awhile. I opened a SP Grisette. SP’s is the only one I have had if it needs to be in a more coarse category than “saison”. I provided my review. That’s pretty much it.

I don’t have the luxury of having tried 100 saisons or having tried everything from SP or living in a great beer city like Chicago. Given what I have tried, and given the point of my posting (a good, affordable saison)…I compared it to the only thing I have experience to compare it to (other than the HF shelfies), which is sofie.

What else would you have me do?

Clara is great as well from Hill Farmstead. I thought DH Grisette was outstanding.

    Home safely.

Great to meet @OakvilleKGB and @not2quick . 2021 has been a helluva year for beer for me, and this was a nice addition.

Plus, the egg rolls at QT on my way in were perfectly toasted. Most satisfying egg roll crunch I've experienced in a long time.

First, it’s very, very good. Whatever stock you put into Untappd or don’t, the overall score is quite impressive. Not sure it’s fully deserved, but not far off either. There wasn’t anything negative I could take away from it. I prefer straightforward ba stouts and tread lightly whenever there a few or more additions. A lot gets lost when that happens imo and the beer can become a bit of a mess. This did not.

Poured thick. Quick, fizzy head. For me, cinnamon is the star, but is doesn’t dominate. It’s consistent, but not overdone. Coconut pokes through here and there. Vanilla, I’m still lost on. I didn’t find this sweet. My wife through it was sweet. Although I rarely find them to be sweet nor am I bothered by it in stouts like this. 4 hours on and finished, it’s all in harmony. Lasting chocolate finish. Awesome beer. Quite impressive that it didn’t become a mess. 750 was a pleasure over the duration and each sip was delightful. Never became heavy on the palate or the body. Would gladly drink again even if it isn’t my preference of ba stout.

    Cheers

Hasn’t TWCP DB Derivation been like $85 on site (and around that to go from TWCP too)? I’d guess $45 on a DB 375ml
