I am genuinely curious as to why SP gives beers like this to TWCP to sell. Does anyone have any insight on that as to why? Is it because TWCP gives them some barrels?

I'm just now realizing that with the launch of the new SP website, the blog was also updated. Seems as though the old (archived) posts are gone sad! I hope those come back eventually

 

What do places like Binny's and TWCP have any business doing with barrels? I understand the concept of bourbon store picks, but they don't actually have the barrels on site...right? I mean, do they tell the distillery to ship the barrels to SP when emptied, or set them aside so SP can pick them up?

 

They definitely ship the barrel if one wants it/them. My old chain received them. I’m sitting next to a Makers barrel that I snagged from my distributor because no one from the chain claimed it.

 

When you purchase the bourbon for a store pick, you buy the entire cask/barrel, literally. Part of cost is shipping, and sometimes the cost of shipping a barrel that would otherwise not be used in a store isn’t worth it so a lot of stores opt out. But when you have the option of working with a brewery who can actually utilize them, and you assume most/all of the cost, then you’ve developed a partnership where you get a “store pick” BBA beer...at least that’s my guess

 

They deliver the barrel with the bottles. Pretty common even for small liquor stores, I can only imagine how many TWCP has.

 

So what you guys are saying is we should crowdfund a barrel, drink the bourbon, and then gift the empty barrel to SP for future beer? Way to twist my arm.

 

I’m kinda surprised they put it up since it had the “public: n/a” language. I saw some trades where people might not be happy now.

 

Is the ability to select ship just a glitch in new system? Tried to search the thread as assume it has been discussed before. Thanks.

 

Yeah it’s something they can’t take out and is the reason Apple Pay doesn’t work.

 

Was CdC #5 specifically said to be member only, or the series in general? #4 was recently packaged with BBT wasn't it?

 

Yeah it defaulted to that, and even let it get to the last step before clicking to purchase, but perhaps that’s where it would have stopped it. (I didn’t end up trying to purchase it with shipping).

 

You’re never going to get a MO brewery shipping out of state.
