Previously they used some type of dried or treated banana. Cut up into "banana nibs" so to speak. They're one of the more expensive beer adjuncts (because of the amount you have to use to actually impart any flavor).

I for one loved Brooklyn Vibes, banaiversary from OH, and Banana shake from MT.

The best banana beer Ive had was from the first 3 sons family member party. Base beer was blended bourbon and run barrel. They treated it with basically bananas foster equivalents. It was draft only, not something you could bottle due to unfermented sugars etc.

Other Half (or OF as you busybodies call them) had a collaboration with Binny's called Deep Orbit: Nanna Rays.

Whatever banana-infused stout anyone has complained about on this thread, I bet it was a lot better than "Nanna Rays". Banana runtz left overnight in a glass of bourbon with a touch of cigarette ash.

I'm not saying I can't enjoy banana in a beer ever again...but we have a lot of work to do to repair this relationship, in light of that terrible beer.

The good banana beers taste like real bananas. The bad ones have that runtz-like flavor. There are way more misses than hits when it comes to banana. I have only had a couple and I think I got lucky with what I've had, Other Half's being one. However, it seems to be one of the more risky things to add to a beer and I'd trust SP's touch. I haven't had Brooklyn Vibes though so I can't speak on it.

Had Brooklyn Vibes on tap at The Cellar around NYE and it was very well balanced and tasty. If one wanted smack yo face nana, that ain’t it. Shows up as it warms, but plays well with the coconut. I like in your face stouts just as much as the next person, but a well executed stout/beer with layers of flavor and complexity is really fun to explore and enjoy.

Man I couldn't recall runtz name for the life of me but was picturing that in my head when thinking of bad banana flavors

OH BA Bananaversary was great, so hoping this is similar to that. BL Mass Action was good, but a step down. Heard great things about MT Chaos Grid: Banana Shake. That being said, as polarizing as banana in stouts may be, it sure beats ANY berry addition attempt into a stout. Those are just heinous

Bottle Logic and Revolution are the only ones I've found to be successful at berries in stouts or bws. It's not something I seek out but they tend to surprise me relative to the medicinal or overly tart vibes other breweries achieve. And not just relatively either, they're quite delicious, most recently Currant Wars, and of course the more sure thing Comb the Desert.

Anyone else just tired of pastry stouts and wish they'd do way more non-adjunct stouts and more barleywines? Bring back Base Weight porter and I'll be excited.

I'd love to see more non-adjunct BA offerings. Continuance B1 was better than pretty much any adjunct stout I had last year.

Had the opportunity try some well regarded flavor additive stouts when I happened to be in Denver during Craft Beer Conference. It was difficult to get excited about for me, and I opted to pass. Probably the reason I don't fawn over the Derivation series (and I've only ever had one of them.) I'd love to see more plain stouts and barleywines as well. Seems like Shared did a plain BA barleywine a couple years ago now too.

BBT '21 is now my highest rated beer. I've talked about splitting my bottle with a friend, but damn, that bottle may just disappear in a single glass for me. Also eager to try Maman for the first time (have a bottle in my possession for the first time, a '20.) I read many of @Sabtos best beers of '21 and have some more plain stouts on my radar for the future.

That is THE BEST beer that I’ve ever had. Loved it. I second this.

D12 is my favorite adjunct stout ever. I solo’d a bottle at the Cellar the night before the ‘19 brewery anniversary. I kinda regretted doing that when I was sitting outside in 25 degree weather at 7 AM the following morning… but coconut, maple and cinnamon is such a good combo.

This seems like 10 years ago, but I think Base Weight was the first Shared/SP beer I ever tried, along with Bibble Babble. I loved that stuff.

i doubt we ever see base weight again. if i remember correctly that was Brian’s recipe and in accordance with Shared’s philosophy, it’s his to take with him.

Am I the only person still hoping for rbbt b2?? Man I thought for sure there was going to be 2 bbt drops a year, sad to be wrong :slight_frown:. Hopefully 2022 sees its return
