The secondary cost of 10 candles

 

Also the flavor of 10 candles, it was everything you could want from that description. Tons of great warm vanilla flavor.

10 year barleywine still the GOAT though

 

Question for those of you who have had 10 Candles; how is the sweetness level considering the amount of vanilla used and also is the barrel muted for the same reason?

 

I didn't think it was particularly or overly sweet, but I would put "barrel character" below the vanilla, marshmallow, and dark chocolate flavors I got when having it.

 

The draft list yesterday was great. Lots of leftovers.

The 2 beers I had last week that I thought would be too hot/oaky because of the barrel treatment were Triple Barrel Anabasis and 10 candles. I was shocked that both were super balanced and dialed in. I thought TB Anabasis was less hot than DB Anabasis and much easier to drink. Much more of the barleywine characteristics shined through.

10 Candles was . You would think a quintuple barrel treatment and 10 types of vanilla would be off-putting, but this puppy was balanced beyond belief. The vanilla was amazing and the barrel was a nice complement to the base beer and vanilla. My favorite candles that I've tried and up there with OWK.

 

I definitely thought Triple Barrel Anabasis had some heat, but it was smooth, bourbon heat. My wife can't stand most stouts and BA barleywines, but she enjoys bourbon and really liked the triple barrel.

Also, an update, 10 Candles has kicked at the Cellar. Boo.

6 Candles is still wonderful, however. Faded but still present maple.

 

Guilty twice. My friends have said it's up there with MJK. Hoping it was the price of FOMO

 

another batch of CSV coming soon… canned again. assuming nitro too.

 

Why would you assume nitro again? I really hope not, just want regular CSV again.

 

the video on ig had 16oz cans, mentioned barrel-aging… all seems in line with the previous release which also includes nitro. complete guess though.

the nitro cans kind of grew on me. at first i was so desperate for a new CSV i didn’t care if they blended a little raccoon piss in there, then i quickly changed to “why fuck with perfection?” but after having the last batch of BA/fresh blended nitro cans i’m fully on board.
