Yea, this one was really curious to me. I know that I have a reputation for just picking on SP, but I buy a decent amount - just not as much as LC members for sure. Anyway, I'm no longer the only voice (far from it!) when it comes to costs and packages, but it's hard to predict how people will react. This one was pretty unusual. This one is more "extreme", because it is only a 375, one of the most expensive 375s, and packaged with 3 750s. In my mind, that makes it "the most extreme package" yet. So, I was pretty curious to see how demand would be.

Also, unlike most other releases, no one's claimed to have tasted it yet, and nothing is on untappd. I didn't expect quite so many people to be lukewarm. That 375ml bottle really affected turnout.

I'm not saying he'll adjust if it's 20 min. vs 20 seconds sell out. I'm more saying if it stops selling out because ppl stop buying the packages (which seems to be the trend), then he'll probably adjust. And to be fair, I think we're still quite a whiles away from that point, but for example, if he packaged a 750mL Coco Vibes or BA Ambiente with 2 or 3 750mL Saisons, I'm pretty certain it would not sell out and he'd probably have to lower the amount of Saisons he packaged them with (if any at all).

Gotcha. Yeah, I don't see "adjustments" coming any time soon because the market has (unfortunately) declared that they'll keep buying the BBT packages immediately even when they complain about them.

I'm not familiar enough with SP's past to say whether or not the Coco/BAA example you're using is a big difference or whether it's just the status quo.

$60 for a drink that I'll down while watching a movie is hard to stomach but I justify it to myself by saying if I want I can always trade it for a few beers that are more reasonable $/oz and if I'm feeling fancy I just enjoy my $60 beer and try not to let the cost impact my enjoyment/experience

So they updated the IG post to say sold out an hour and a half ago, and I just got an email saying now available 5 min ago. Which one is it?

Or you know like Langst was originally sold in a package, then quietly listed on the store solo, and then ended up being a secondary bottle in a package itself (generational). Not that that’ll happen with BBT. I honestly feel that SP doesn’t care if things sell out anymore and they will just sell it on-site instead. BBT, D16 and Continuance B3 have all been available for 3 months. They probably care more about foot traffic into 3 locations than if a bottle insta sells out online.

That's probably true too. He'd probably just adjust by moving things to in-house or distribute them farther out, rather than reducing the package sizes. At this point, Side Project is basically invited to all the festivals and beer weeks anyway. We just had SF Beer week and one place had bottles of BBT21 and Continuance 3 for in-house. SARA also had BBT22, D16, and Anabasis on tap.

Yeah, I tried 2 minutes after it went live and tried to check out many times with multiple cards and never got through. Just figured it was sold out and gave up. Not a huge deal, but annoying.

I’m heading down Sunday and can’t wait! What I don’t remember is if anything that was on tap previous days would stay on tap?

The current list is an embarrassment of fantastic beers, so either way it’s going to be a great time.

I also have not a beer question, but I’ve got a lot of great reviews of Pappy’s Smokehouse from a couple people I know. What do you guys think?

I’m not a local but have eaten at both places multiple times and highly prefer Bogart’s over Pappy’s as well.

I’m not a BBQ expert by any means and the only time I really eat it is when I’m visiting another city because Pittsburgh’s BBQ scene isn’t good, but when it came to the total meal I also enjoyed Beast Butcher and Dalie’s Smokehouse more than Pappy’s as well, although I’ve only eaten at each of these places only once. I know complaining about side dishes when it comes to smoked meats sounds pretty stupid but I’m a ***** for the side dish game and I thought Pappy’s were subpar. I get the vibe that Pappy’s is the Franklin of St Louis though where it’s pretty much a must visit for the experience though.

Just one man’s opinion of course.

The best barbecue I've had has been at home and other friends' homes (and yeah I know people say that and they usually suck), or some crazy dude named Zizzo who trained at Franklin but moved to Youngstown then San Diego (yes I've eaten at Franklin), or in Memphis. There's something about the no frills dry rub Memphis barbecue that is unbelievably, mouth-wateringly delicious and crispy.

That said, I thought Bogart's was tasty. And yeah, no stouts were harmed during that meal.

Pappy was my least favorite of the 3 or 4 places I have been to over the years out there. Been awhile since I was there, but the food was so underwhelming that I have no need to ever revisit.

Also: Early reports for VW BBT seems to be very high. Hard to take Untappd seriously when there is a special barrel involved, because I think people get a bit blind sometimes, but it really sounds good.

Anyone on here tried it yet? Curious how those that contribute on here that have had every BBT iteration would place it.

I have eaten at quite a lot of BBQ restaurants (I'm a huge foodie, so I've been everywhere for food/BBQ), but I would say Pappy's is pretty meh and I would say you aren't missing out on much. If I were to compare it to stuff in Chicago/IL area, it's maybe better than Smoque (which is honestly terrible), but worse than Green Street Smoked Meats imo.

My BBQ scale though is tilted towards stuff in Texas. Pretty much all Texas BBQ spots blow all other states out of the water and makes all other BBQ taste average. Only BBQ joint I've been impressed by outside of Texas is Lewis BBQ in Charleston (and he came from Texas, so it's still not fair).
