I wasn't going to comment because I haven't had repeated visits like the locals, but now I'm feeling left out.

Pappys- nothing was mind-blowing but felt like everything I tried was at least solid.

Bogarts- the ribs were good but nothing else stood out

Salt and Smoke- generally not impressed

There is a place about an hour east of Franklin called Snow’s that was an experience just like Franklin was. Had the same type of tailgate/line life vibe that Franklin had but was in a much more remote location. My poor pescatarian wife spent about 10+ hours in line at Franklin and Snow combined, only to stuck eating French Fries and corn once we got inside.

Pro tip: At Franklin’s you can order ahead and pickup, and not wait in line. Not sure when this started, but it was in effect in 2022, and was definitely better than ever waiting in a line.

Pro Tip #2: Get someone to pickup for you! I was lucky in this regard, but the person that picked up said he was there for all of 5-10 minutes, despite the outrageous line.

Sorry to make this about beer again, but Sunsets available at the brewery

Still have fomo from 2019 being at the front of the BBT pickup line when it sold out and still haven’t had a chance to try it

    Fine I’ll say it…

    Midwest BBQ Ratings
Kansas City > Memphis >>>>>>>>>> St. Louis

    …so anyways, how’s this BBT?

It's important for others to be this wrong in order to highlight the actual truth in the world. Thank you for your service.

You should get it if you have the chance. They had bottles available at the brewery the day I picked up BBT last year, and it's holding up incredibly well.

For sure. If it’s a heavy stout day at SP I can’t do bbq first - in that situation these days my go-to food stop before hitting the Cellar is Songbird for that combo sandwich.

But for STLBBQ Bogarts gets my vote as well, especially for the burnt ends (aka the pastry stouts of bbq)

Raising Cane’s is the undisputed goat for heavy stout days at SP.

Now back to the beer talk…

Moving past BBQGate (for the record, consider me on team Balkan), regardless of your thoughts on Untappd reviews, 4.95 as a starting average is insane. Looking forward to trying VW BBT!

    I mean, it’s VW + BBT…. I gave it a 5, and I didn’t even need to try it!

    That lady was so mad.

“This isn’t how this works!!! You have to be in a car!!””

    “Well I don’t have a f*cking car. I walked here!”

    Shin Shin > D16

To be on topic about Maplewood chicken:

    Porters > Gus’s

Not a Gus’s fan at all. Will have to look into this “Porters”

I think I’ve only done Porter’s once since I moved away from STL, was a fan way back when so should definitely fix that.

Has there been any word whether Shin Shin is draft only or also getting a bottle release? Feel like that “draft debut” verbiage can always go either way.

During Cory’s opening night speech he said it would be draft only and there were only 4 kegs of it. Also, something along the lines of it were brewed again it would be a different beer.
