I'm planning on taking the Concise course in Beer technology. I believe I would learn better in a classroom setting and think I can afford the two week stay in chicago, but the online course is done over 2 months. I feel like that would be a better pace for any class but I don't want to miss an oppurtunity to be at the actual campus. Does anyone have experience with either course? Thank you!

I'd touch base with both Chicago and the online institute. See what each has to offer. Maybe the 2 weeks in a classroom will be more hands-on. Maybe two months online will let you get more done because of the longer timeframe. Good questions to direct at the institutes. Let us know what you find out, btw, I'm very curious.

I did the international diploma program, so my experience was a bit different, but I think setting aside a couple weeks (and I'd stay a few days before and after as well, just to really take in the city) to fully immerse yourself in your classes is a good way get your head in the right place. Plus, there is so much going on beer-wise in Chicago and you'll get to visit breweries and hang out with classmates who are on the same page as you and talk brewing into the wee hours of the morning at Local Option, Map Room, Revolution, or a dozen other places. Plus, you'll get face-to-face connection with your instructors and other people while there. I had an amazing experience while at Siebel and it's served me well in the two years since.

I took the online course you're referring to and it was an immense amount of information that helped propel me into a job at my favorite local brewpub - I no longer work there but it definitely helped me to understand the systems, technology, etc much better than I already did. I would have preferred the campus class because I like being hands on but I couldn't allow myself to take that much time off work with a little one on the way at the time. The next course(s) I take I hope to do on campus rather than online. Siebel is extremely informative, if you apply yourself properly it won't matter which course you take, it's a top notch educational program!

Thank you guys! I think I have my answer. I will let you know how it goes. The good part is my sister lives in Chicago so I even have a place to stay. I'm really excited to do this. Thank you for your help!

Chiming in here as I took the on-line version this past fall. It was okay. Not worth the price tag in my opinion - so if you're set on taking it, I would recommend spending the time in class as you will probably get more out of it.

What I did like is that all of the presentations are downloadable, so I have references easily accessible whenever I need them. Also, going at your own pace is obviously convenient when you get busy, but if you're taking the time off work to do it, then by all means, go for it.
