Anyone try any of the Sierra 30th Anniversary releases lately? I enjoyed all of them quite a bit when fresh and decided to put one bottle from each release in the cellar. I've already had the Imperial Helles because I didn't think it would last too long but still have the other 3. IIRC, the Imperial Stout was the first to be released, sometime in late winter/early spring 2010 so they would range from a year and half to 2 years old now. Obviously with one time releases there is no-way to guess when they would peak but I'm starting to think sooner rather than later. So, what does everyone else think? Anyone have one recently?

I have the Imperial Helles in the cellar. I agree with you that it's the least likely to do well, but what the hell, I'm giving it a try.

The stout is fantastic now. I had it on draft in February, and it was like drinking a chocolate pumpernickel pretzel.

I have several of the Grand Cru and Barleywine put away and was wondering the same thing myself. Maybe I need to pop one and find out sooner rather than later.

After posting this thread last night I decided to pull out one of the bottles tonight. The black barleywine has aged wonderfully so far with lots of rich and creamy chocolate notes coming though. Sure is nice to have a treat like this every once in a while.

For whatever reason I didn't try any of these when they were released but I've had the Imp. Stout laying down for awhile (been waiting to open it with some friends) so maybe I'll bust it open sooner rather than later.

i loved the stout fresh, thought it got worse after a year or so.

didn't hold on to any of the helles for the same reasons as other people.

have some grand cru (which i didn't like fresh) and black barleywine (which i did like fresh), but will probably wait a year or so more for both of them.

The Grand Cru is tasting fantastic at the moment. I poured this at a tasting I host, two weeks ago, let's just say the 6 to 8 bottles my store had still in stock are now just about gone. People were shocked to see how well beer can age.

i enjoyed the stout fresh very much and i dont think it tastes as good as it used to. i still have two bottles left of that. I had a grand cru a few months ago and it was still really hoppy. if i remember correctly i think bill manley said it was mostly bigfoot so it should age wonderfully. i cant speak too much about the black barleywine but i would think it should age nicely cause it also has a big hop presence

Grand Cru is the one I probably have highest hopes for with cellaring. I enjoyed it quite a lot when fresh but with Bigfoot making up such a large portion of the blend, I can only imagine the wonders a little time will do. As stated above, I drank the one barleywine I had left and it was awesome. Tasted very much like a strong porter at this point. The stout I'll hold onto a bit longer but I'm not too worried about how it ages. There are plenty of other readily available imperial stouts on the market that age well enough to take its place in the cellar at anytime.

Drank the stout a couple weeks ago, I thought it fell off quite a bit. Tasted dull and lifeless to me. I drank both the barleywine and the grand cru at the brewery 3 months ago and both were great, with the grand cru being the biggest surprise. Still had a nice hop presence with the Bigfoot malty goodness starting to show through.

I just had all four in a series tasting with a friend. I thought the grand cru and stout did excellent with age. I preferred the black barleywine when it was fresh and I never really loved the bock either fresh or aged. I have another complete series I am going to give another year and try again.

I had the Black Barleywine last week and thought it was fantastic. I had never had it fresh to compare to though.

I have a black Barleywine that I plan to age long term. A semi local bottle shop still has Grand Cru for sale ($9.99). I am going to buy some next time I stop in. I had one fresh when they released (had all 4 and enjoyed them). I'll drink one right away and post thoughts on the age.

The black barleywine has been consistently getting better. The stout has been consistently getting worse. Just like mikehblack wrote. The barleywine has really been the star of the 4. Really wish I grabbed some grand cru.
