Is this still produced? I remember it coming out around this time, but I haven't seen it yet. I enjoyed that beer a lot and would love to see it again. Any info. is appreciated. Thanks!
Nope. Got replaced by Ruthless. Sad to see Glissade go but at least Ruthless is a decent Rye IPA. However, imo, Sierra Nevada is overloaded with IPAs in their portfolio now. We've got Torpedo, Celebration, Ruthless, Fresh Hop (Southern and Northern), and Hoptimum. It was nice to get a little more variety with the Glissade. Although, I think the Glissade recipe and the Summerfest recipe or process could be tweaked. Neither of those beers have good head retention and usually there is none. IMO, it prevents Summerfest from being truly considered as a world class brew. Hopefully a new version of a similar beer to Glissade makes its appearance soon. I wouldn't mind a collaboration between Bayern and Sierra Nevada.
I'm sad that Glissade is gone, truly loved that one; nursing a torpedo at the moment to quell the hurt.
Glissade was a wonderful spring bock. Had a 1/2 barrell at my house a couple years ago, which was nice in the warm weather.
Damn. I mean Ruthless Rye is great-stuff and all, but come on, helles bocks need love too! (of course they get little, hence few making them). Any suggestions on a similar brew?
I missed Glissade immensely this spring....that toothless rye "IPA" was no consolation prize and I found no replacement for the golden bock that I drank mutiple cases of when it was available. Like hoppy ipa's, looks like I'm going to have to make this myself too.
I enjoyed Harpoon's Rye IPA much better than the Ruthless... Glissade was the one of the few beers I coveted and hoarded...now all I have is "my precious" BBC Czech Pilsner
Actually, I wasn't too crazy about Glissade; I found the malt character lacking. I do agree that I'd like them to mix it up and offer another non-hoppy beer in its stead. Whatever happened to the old Pale Bock, btw? I always rather liked that one.
I miss Glissade. I thought it was a nice no-brainer. I also love Tumbler which many seem to poo poo. The 12er of Ruthless which I purchased on the day it arrived was terrible. The catty/pissy smelll was too much for me. I still have 5 left - although based on the universal response, I suspect mine were somehow bad. Nevertheless, I wasn't inclined to spend more money to find out.
So as someone who has never had Glissade, I have to ask, "How well does it age?" Reason I ask is I saw a bottle on the shelf at my local store, keep passing it by though.
Well...it was one great beer. Looked forward to it and it's gone. Ruthless good, but do we need another IPA? I would say no.
