Excuse me if this beer has been discussed before. Couldn't find much on it when I searched.

If you enjoyed Barrel Aged Narwhal, this blows doors on it. The coffee component really shines reminding me of a very high quality roast and the maple just adds to the vanilla that the barrel lends...

I felt this beer was either not geting much love or was over-shadowed by the BA Narwhal.

However, I find with SN's recent BA beers (BA Bigfoot which is 2 years recent, Narwhal, Maple Stout) that there certainly is a harsh American whiskey thing going on opposed to smooth bourbon I get with Firestone's BA beers, Eclipse & even Bourbon County.

Almost like a watery Jim Beam or Maker's finish. The ony aspect holding SN's barrel aging program back IMHO. I'm not trying to start a Schitt-storm with that comment. These are damn fine BA beers, and I'm trying to express more love for the Maple Stout. I just find whatever barrels being used are freaking hot! And I prefer my Boubon County Brand Stout Fresh to paint a picture here.

I'm curious with those familiar with these beers if they've found similar experience.

    CHEERS!!

I would believe the reason it hasn't been talked about much is because aside from local CA people no one else has had the chance to see it anywhere. Sounds great but I'll never see it here in NJ.

did you find some recently? If so where? If not why are you toying with Californians and making non-Californians sad?:slight_frown:

Edit: All I remeber was it in a thread how they were doing a very limited run of some 5 gallon kegs. Mainly up at chico and in Berkeley torpedo room.

It was a great beer. A tad sweet but all in all worth the $20 for 750ml.
Especially since the 750 of BA Torperdo somehow goes for $25...?!?!
I'm not seeing the math there.

I really enjoyed the BA Torpedo, but the pricing was a bit curious. Sounds like it's time to pop my Maple Stout soon

I'm skeptical on maple in beer... but eh, it's Sierra Nevada. Take my money, you bastards.

I thought NC was selling some brewery-only as well. Yes? No?

Yes, but it is probably gone by now. Almost gone at Thanksgiving the last time I was there. Best I recall also the BA Torpedo was the same price as the BA Maple, which is why I passed on that one. I like IPA's but BA IPAs not so much. I put more weight in stouts when it comes to barrel aging.

Yeah, in a thread about the BA Torpedo I balked at the price tag. There's something in my brain that shuts down once a single bottle of an IPA exceeds maybe $8.

This would be something I'd picked up if I ever saw it, but not being in CA or NC, the chance is nil. Oh, well.

I had ba Bigfoot and didn't find it hot at all.

Sitting on a maple and a BA narwhal. Looking forward to drinking both. Not sitting on them for any particular reason other than the right occasion. Glad to hear a positive review as I have also heard meh reviews, but the only one that matters is the theirs.

Had a bottle of the maple a few weeks ago at a bottleshare here in Kentucky, not sure where it came from, but it was excellent, better than the BA Narwhal by leaps and bounds.

Interesting. When it was released on draft at the Brewery, it was like drinking staight up whiskey. No base beer to be found at all for myself.

It's drinking freaking AWESOME though right now.

BA Narwhal definitely had an odd whiskey flavor that didn't meld with the base beer well at all. I definitely wouldn't call it hot but it stood out. Hopefully some time will help
