Great Lakes Commadore Perry is the only true challenger to torpedo in my area $8.49 /6
Columbus ipa is the giant slayer but only local @ $8.99/6
Torpedo is my reference standard value ipa $8.99 /6 here
I do understand the op , as I thought Bells 2 heart was horrible ( about 15 yrs. Ago ) now my fav on tap ipa thats available here!

    Cheers

I love me some Torpedo! I always overlooked it but in my last beer buying frenzy I picked up a 4 pack of tall boys and couldn't be happier.

Agreed, Since I get Columbus IPA cheaper than Torpedo I hardly ever get it. I feel bad for the folks that can't taste the greatness that is Columbus IPA.

Gotta agree with brewbetter on this one. I really like Torpedo for the cost, very decent and inexpensive. But I think it always tastes a little oxidized (out of the bottle or can).

It's not that distracting (I have a 4-pack in my fridge right now), but I think people geek out a little too much about it. I prefer the Pale Ale I guess.

Nobody claimed it was the best but it's damn sure more available than all the beers you mentioned. I can go to the supermarket for some Torpedo....West Coast, Sculpin and FinestKind? Not so much.

True, getting those easily depends where you are while SN has great national distribution. West Coast and Finest Kind are very readily available in NJ. It's easy to just stick with the very good cheap option that you're used to, but I think it's nice to try some of the better options from smaller breweries that might not be able to price or distribute as competitively as SN, that's all.

If you all knew what the "Extra" in "Extra IPA" meant, you wouldn't like it so much.

Finest Kind has to be one of the most polarizing beers ever for me. One day I think its the greatest beer ever, the next day I'm totally over it. I can't make my mind up on that beer to save my life.

It's funny, I first tried Torpedo about 3 years ago before I had ever gone much further than a pale ale. It was very unenjoyable at the time.
Not too long after that I started getting into craft beer but ignored Torpedo becaue of that bas memory.

So I tried it on tap a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe how awesome it was...I'd been missing out on a great and affordable IPA all that time!

I live in a small town. Our population is ~5500 at last census. If I want Finest Kind, West Coast or pretty much anything other than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Torpedo, Sam Adams, Bell's Cream Stout (of all things) or BMC, it's a thirty minute drive. I make that trip about once a week. I've only been drinking beer since my 21st birthday in January but in that time I've had all of GF (Rayon Vert is mindblowing) and Smuttynose including the Big Bottle Series....but when I want to drink a beer after a long day and not have to make another trip, I'm super thankful for Sierra Nevada's Distro and their sweet, sweet Torpedo.

    Sorry about the rant....

The new 12 packs have the date printed on the front of the box.

Yep, the first digit is the last digit of the year, and the next three are the day of the year. Example:

    2048 = 48th day of 2012, or February 17.

Sierra is staple at my place. The main brews(including Torpedo!) are always $11.99 a 12 pack at Total Wine. Can't beat that.

Here in GA, the 6pk is $8.99 and the 4pk cans are $7.99. That is the same per oz. price, about $.12.

To many good standards around here greatly priced so I seem to be passing on Torpedo a lot more then I should. It is 6.79/6 and 12.79/12.... But I have been buying a lot of NG Moon man at 6.99/6, Ale Asylum Ambergeddon 13.99/12, Two Hearted 8.50/6. While two hearted is a couple of bucks more it is worth it. However when I see some really fresh Torpedo I never hesitate to grab a 6 or 2.

The cans really should be priced at the same cost per ounce as the bottles. In Chico, they are actually cheaper per ounce. That said, we have no control wholesalers or their pricing, but that's about what we sell it for.

Guys I know how they date, but you can't see inside the 12 pack. I don't want to buy and be stuck with a out dated 12 pack. Do they mark outside of 12 pack box? Thx
