I have used this for years. Cheaper/ft if you buy more. http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/1-2-id-thermoplastic-tubing.html Same goes for silicone, a friend bought a box/roll years back then sold what he did not need to other Club members.
Where else but Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/White-Silicon...83&sr=8-2&keywords=silicone+tubing+food+grade Also, search eBay for "silicone tubing food grade" . . . sometimes it's even cheaper.
That's where I got my price from. I was searching 1/2" ID. Ebay appears to be $2.20/ft... much cheaper. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-I-D-x-5...912?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26ec67c0
More rigid than silicone, you can make bends or turns if not too sharp. It does not collapse or kink, unless you really abuse it.
Midwest has it for $3/ft for 1/2": http://www.midwestsupplies.com/1-2-silicone-silcon-hose-per-foot.html
Are you sure you are comparing same OD? Just looked at mine and it's 1/2"ID x 3/4"OD which I use for strike water and wort transfer. It is very durable, still on my first set.
Maybe not. Here's what I was looking at and I saw on the right side of the page that Midwest is a listed seller, also for $5/ft. http://www.amazon.com/SILICONE-Silc...375671452&sr=8-2&keywords=silicone+tubing+1/2
I am proud of my homebrew shop for buying this stuff by the roll and selling it by the foot for a reasonable price.
This place has some 1/2" for $1.20/ft also some thicker walled stuff for 2.43/ft http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=23884&catid=799
probably more expensive, but i much prefer thermoplastic tubing to silicone. Much more rigid which i prefer greatly and more durable since I have had silicone tubing rip at the end of the barbs on me while moving.
I found it at Brewer's Hardware for $2.20 / foot. They ship via USPS too, so the shipping is reasonable. https://www.brewershardware.com/Silicone-Hose-1-2.html
