The cask was very good friday night. As I said in another thread it wasn't quite as good as Citra or Nelson but damn good.

Quite tasty. Make up for Amarillo, but not near Citra. Similar citrus grapefruit flavors... Just has a tiny bitter/pine dirty finish. Not taking away from the quality, Citra Showers just spoiled me. Worthy by far

Drinking one now, better than Amarillo but still not close to Citra or Nelson Showers. I was hoping for more from Evan on the nose, the flavors are of very ripe stone fruits, and loads of over ripe pineapple. Its very well made beer though. B+

    Cheers,

Saw all the parking questions -- if I show up at about noon on Saturday, should I expect a decent-sized crowd at the door when it opens? I know the NCAA Tournament game at the Pond isn't for awhile, but wanted to make sure I got in ahead of crowds if necessary.

It will probably be fine. I have never had trouble finding parking at Noble. Simcoe Showers is OK, better than Amarillo (that is not saying much), not nearly as good as Nelson and not even close to Citra so the hype won't be too out of control for this one.

That could all change dramatically if some giant beer tour bus happens to be there when you go ... had that happen at Valiant about a month ago, so you never know.

nelson showers wins. citra was great but tongue tickles was better and really underrated.

Simcoe was so-so. I am not sure it was even better than Amarillo. Citra has been my favorite so far, with Nelson a very close second.

And I am not sure that the issue with Amarillo was the hop alone. I had Societe's Bachelor with Amarillo a couple weeks ago and it was outstanding.

Yeah, I'd put Simcoe just slightly above Armarillo. Not bad, but compared to Citra or even Tongue Tickles, just not a fair deal. I ended up picking up only one bottle. I like the shower series, but it seems like we're in the lull of the popular hops. Bring on Galaxy.

Thanks for the tip! I will park there and walk. I did look and their site said opening at 2 pm tomorrow (though it was 4 today)... likely to accommodate for the games.

How can you compare single hop beers against a beer that had multiple hops and was brewed totally different?

Even though some would assume any beer with only Citra (or any single hop) in it should taste very similar, I've found very profound differences between some citra-only beers. I guess a lot really does depend on where and how much you are using those hops in the process. And I guess the malt profile and water will influence the flavor in certain ways. So yeah, you are definitely right. Kern River's tastes like a mango bomb, Toppling Goliath Psuedo Sue tasted very very "green." Noble's was somewhere in the middle to me.

Maybe one of the things that made Societe's better (more drinkable?) was the lower ABV. I think the flavors of specific hops lend themselves better to higher ABV beers than others....

I would like to see & taste a single hop Citra or Nelson brewed by Julian S @ BWbbQ&B. CitraHolic is amazing! But it's not a single hop. Simcoe Showers was definitely good. Better than Amarillo. But C & N still rule. Bring on Mosaic. . . . .

Although Societe hasn't yet done a Bachelor Nelson, I can't imagine it could be better than Mosaic.

Kern's Citra is about 40% Amarillo and the remainder is Citra.

Simcoe and Amarillo are being way underrated, imo. The entire Showers series has been very, very good. Amarillo still comes in at #4 for me but that just speaks to how good the other 3 are. Thought Simcoe and Nelson were right on the same level.

I think somebody needs to designate one of the new experimental hops "Cochise Hops"

They hit a home run with Citra. Nelson was pretty good, but certainly not close to something like Alpine Nelson. I thought the Amarillo bordered on bad. Simcoe was OK, but I did not feel the need to have a second pour or to buy any bottles of it.
