It's interesting how a solid beer like Amarillo Showers would be considered bad. Ever have the first canning of Wolf Among Weeds? I think some perspective is in order.

It definitely wasn't the worst beer anyone has ever had, but the more I think about it, where this beer really was kept from excelling was its ABV... I don't think what Amarillo has to offer alone can support, or mesh well with a beer base of 8.8% ABV. Just speculation of course... I think a single hop Amarillo could be very refreshing in a smaller session type beer.

Who was saying Simcoe Showers is a bad beer? Define solid. It's not a bad beer. What is a "bad" beer? Of the 4 showers so far, yes Amarillo is the badder. How would Columbus rank with the showers? If Amarillo was available year round would you buy it? Or if you had a choice between Big Whig or Amarillo Showers which would you choose? I would occasionally buy a bottle here and there. It's not one that I would say no to if there were no other choices. It's a good beer from Noble. And Noble has been putting out some good beers lately.

I just get this sense from some folks that if the beer doesn't surpass Alpine or Societe level quality, it's bad. I think even what's considered the least favorite of the Showers series beers is still a vast improvement over what was available here just a couple of years ago. That's cause for celebration to me.

What I consider a bad beer was Coronado Hibiscus IPA. Couldn't finish my first pour and drain poured the rest of the bomber. I wouldn't even consider Karl's Tower 10 as bad. Not good. But not bad. Big Eye IPA?

It's by no means a bad beer. But compared to Citra or Nelson, this one is not that amazing. I only ended up picking up a single bottle of it cause I figured it was worth sharing with friends, but not worth getting a bottle for myself.

I've only had up to Amarillo in the series, but the only thing keeping me from stocking up on any of them is the price.

Any more of this stuff at Noble? Gonna try a bottle out of curiosity. Citra > Nelson > Amarillo.

Not sure if it's still at Noble, but it's popping up in stores now.

Picked up 2 bottles of the Messenger which I enjoyed very much. And they still had bottles of Simcoe Showers.
Messenger is selling for $7 per bottle. Simcoe still at $9. Had one of my 2 bottles of Simcoe last night. Maybe a 2-3 bottle purchase.
