Hey BAs, I apologize if this is a redundant post -I looked but I have also been drinking I have been looking into temperature controlled, electric chillers for wine bottles. I have a few concerns: it looks like some of them take forever to get to the correct temperature, some don't list the size restrictions on the bottles, others appear buggy and sometimes heat instead of chill the bottle (unintentionally so). Also, ideally I would like one that I can use on bombers/750mLs as well as 12oz & 16oz btls/cans. I would really appreciate any input or product reviews for these things. Cheers, Andy
There are ones out there than can chill a 22/750 in a couple minutes, but I don't happen to know a brand name. You can do it yourself by putting the bottle in a container, surrounding it with ice, and spinning it between your palms for a couple minutes.
+1 on the ice bath method. It's curious how we sometimes forget that the simplest method is often the fastest, cheapest, and most efficient. And, in this case, 99% of us have all the equipment we need on hand.
Agree ice is best for chilling. The wine coolers are great for keeping something at serving temperature, if you are drinking an imperial stout at 50 degrees over the course of the night though.
Yeah some of them kick on after the bottle is a few degrees away from the target temperature which is really cool. Even though the ice/fridge is easy, I'd want to server at the ideal temperature.
http://beveragecoolerexperts.com/review-single-bottle-wine-chillers/ Seems the 2 models discussed, one is the automated version of spinning the bottle in cold water/ice the other uses the peltier principle. Personally use the bottle spin in ice water. To make it go faster add salt which will cause the ice to initially melt faster, then actually stay frozen longer, same principle as old school ice cream maker.
