I'm looking for a relatively easy to find single-hop Nelson Sauvin beer, preferably a pale ale or IPA. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA. Any suggestions?

Anchor Humming Ale is solely hopped with Nelson Sauvin hops. It is a seasonal available now (July – November).

As a heads up Humming Ale is moderately hopped so the Nelson Sauvin hop flavor/aroma is not ‘in your face’. If you are looking for a BIG taste of Nelson Sauvin hops this beer may not suit you.

Below is a description of Humming Ale from the Anchor website:

“This bold, frothy, effervescent craft ale, with hints of citrus, finds its name throughout English literature that might just as well describe its taste, its history, or just how it makes you feel.

The recipe for Humming ® Ale and its resulting flavor, owe much to the traditional methods used to make our Liberty Ale®. Both are brewed using pale malt, a natural carbonation process called “bunging,” and dry-hopping, but the unique flavor profile of Humming comes from a distinctive hop from New Zealand called Nelson Sauvin.

Nelson the Impaler. Had it on tap a while ago. Pretty good.

I agree that this beer is awesome but I have only ‘found’ it twice (on tap). Below is something I posted previously:

Evil Twin Femme Fatale Blanc: a beer made in Denmark that is an IPA brewed with 100% Brett and Nelson Sauvin hops. That beer was sublime! It was somewhat bold but what I appreciated was the pleasant blend of the Brett produced flavors (phenols, esters, etc.) and the flavors from the Nelson Sauvin hops. I am not typically a fan of Nelson Sauvin hops but they worked real well in this beer!

Below is a link to a great review of the Evil Twin beer.

    Cheers!

Only an 8 hour drive to NEBCO to get Coriolis the next time they brew it. That beer is mind blowing. Sorry I dont have anything else to suggest.

Nelson and brett play together so nicely IMHO. I'll have to seek out that Evil Twin beer. Were you also a fan of the Mikkeller Nelson Sauvignon (Nelson Brut) by Mikkeller? Expensive, but great stuff... One of the few Mikkellers that I believe is worth the high price point. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13307/58359/

I have not tasted the Mikkeller beer.

I've had Nelson before. I'm pretty sure it's not a single hop but I thought the entire beer was weak. Weak nose and weak flavor. I much preferred Duet.

I know Cellarmaker in SF brews an amazing Nelson IPA, next time they brew it I would try to snag a growler.

Elysian Savant is a apparently a pretty solid Nelson IPA- I don't think it's single-hopped (bittered with Chinook, I believe), but it's singularly dry-hopped with Nelson.

I have only had Alpine Duet and to my disappointment there was no bottling date on that beer. It is possible that the Alpine Nelson that @PSU_Mike drank had some age on it; that is a possible explanation for the "weak" description.

    Cheers!

(------------ that is the best hoppy beer period. I love the Nelson hop. My favorite type of hop and Alpine Nailed it even if they use other hops in it. It's the furthest from weak you will ever find

Funny you should mention this. I got both in a trade. Here is a C&P of my conversation with the trader.

He mentioned fresh before everything but Nelson. I never noticed it before. Interesting...

Last I read Humming got retired in favor of Bigleaf Maple. It's a shame too, Humming was a much better beer.
