most helles, pilsners and kölsch use only 1 type of malt.

Seems to me that if you change the malt you change the style. About the same way as changing yeast.

I would love to find an ale that was just Golden Promise. A malt every IPA should have in it.

I'm talking strictly within malts that are 2 row base malts. Take the principle of just changing the hop variable in an IPA and apply that to malts in a style chosen for being a malt forward style. Unless the selected style requires a very specific type of 2 row to achieve the flavor profile, it should not change the style of the beer itself. If we were talking about changing amounts of crystal, chocolate or other flavoring malts you'd be correct in most cases.

After rereading your OP, I get what you are going for. Not looking for example, the difference in a beer brewed with only crystal 60 (how horrible would that be?!) vs. Vienna Malt, but if the crystal 60 was malted by different suppliers and everything else remained the same. I lost it there somewhere reading the responses.

Thinking about this I'm surprised that it hasn't happened yet. Even if it's just marketing.

Malty beers aren't as sexy as hoppy beers. There's the case of stouts, but the base malt there doesn't inform the flavor as much as the darker malts and barrel aging (if applicable).

Barrel aging is another variant breweries have done to showcase differences.

Can a brotha get some nice malt forward beers to showcase Rahr, Briess, and other maltsters? Sounds boring but could be fun.

And I have had that beer a couple of times. Seems that the Golden Promise gets destroyed by that awful Citra hop as I never noticed the malt. Thanks for the heads up.

Founders Mosaic Promise while not malt forward only features a single malt, Golden Promise. IMO it's still quite hoppy with only Mosaic hops in it but I've loved this beer through and through, Well before the bottle release also. It's really simple in body and mouthfeel but tons of flavor at the same time. May not be what you're looking for but it's what came to mind when I saw your post. Good luck OP.

Seems that Toppling Goliath Golden Nugget uses just Golden Promise malt. An awesome beer.
