Quite widespread, I’m guilty of it sometimes

"new money" in the beer world means people new to beer who are willing to pay exorbitant prices for hype beer. the $22 DDHDIPA haze or the $18 adjunct candy bar stout collab bottles are examples of this.

I went to SingleCut yesterday with some friends who were visiting and the DDH Bon Bon 2x TNT on tap was on point

I see, that makes more sense to me than previous explanations. So basically anyone who buys beer from SingleCut or Other Half?

I only buy the $14 or $16 4packs from them. They also have a $4 off sale each 4pack going on now. Paying more than that for beer is irresponsible in my opinion but that's just me. You have to admit there are a few NYC area breweries who price a bit higher than others. I bought some IPAs for a gift from a good source in Astoria and there was some Finback 4pack I never heard of for 20.99 before tax and deposit. Passed on that out of principle. Threes and LIC were 17.99

he was just trolling me b/c he knows I like Barrier out of all NYC area breweries. I think they do have a few that are priced out of hand but many are in the $14-16 range. Are there other area breweries that put out cans of traditional kolsch, cali common, brown ales in addition to IPAs? I just wish they were priced more like $10-12.

I'm pretty sure there's a 95%+ correlation between people who use the term 'new money' and 18-30yo white guys who's lives are based on riding the coat tails of their parents.

The concept of 'nouveau riche' dates back to antiquity, so, no.

Guys guys - I feel like we’re talking over each other

    In life:

New money / nouveau riche - fairly obnoxious term (although occasionally warranted) for someone who’s recently acquired wealth and spends tastelessly. Often used by “old money” (which is not a perjorative but should be cos those f’ers didn’t even have to go through the effort of buying a lottery ticket, let alone working for it)

    In beer:

New money - I don’t know if it was “invented” by DDB or popularized by him, but insulting term for a relatively new beer drinker who is only interested in hazy ipas / pastry stouts etc. I.e. not interested in ever trying a Palatine or a Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout or an Orval etc
