SingleCut Beersmiths (March 2017)

This week: Thursday we're releasing the '17 variant of our barrel-aged HEAVY BOOTS OF LEAD, this batch aged in Rye Whiskey barrels. Smooth and luscious, on tap and in bottles. Friday a fresh batch of DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER LAUGHTER? IPA is on tap (bottles next week) and ICYMI no DEAN bottles this week - too much draft demand but it's on tap and tasting awesome - last batch before the Fall so fair warning DEAN faithful!

 

I really like the rye whiskey barrel on the Eric Stout a month or so back. much lower ABV, but bodes well for this version of HBOL.

 

Was that released in bottles?

 

Nah, that was draft only.

Either way, should be better than the BA HBOL they did in 2016, which was pretty widely reported to be infected.... Anyone send a label on that one in, as they mentioned some sort of compensation on their site... I've been sitting on my last bottle and should probably bite the bullet and pop it...

 

They indicated on Instagram they have 'a few' cases of Jenny Said left, sold out of SSMS.

 

Is this the maple one you are talking about?

 

Yup. First bottle I had (which I drank right after release) was pretty good, if a little hot... The second a few months later was a mess and tasted infected to me, or at least horribly awry from the intended taste... Have a third I've been avoiding...

 

Interesting. I had one and thought something was off, but finished it. Have one more? Maybe I'll email them.

Hey folks, we’ve heard from a couple of you that your bottles of Barrel Aged Heavy Boots of Lead weren’t tasting the way you expected. For most, the problem wasn’t with the beer, but with some confusion on WHAT the beer was. These bottles are the result of almost a full year of aging in neutral oak barrels (not bourbon barrels, as some excited drinkers had assumed), then blended with some young HBOL and fresh maple that was bourbon cured. The end result should be bright, tannic, chocolatey, and a little tart (though not sour). For maximum enjoyment, let your glass sit out for a half hour, and watch all the malty richness really open up.

We take quality control EXTREMELY seriously, and have taken it upon ourselves to drink countless bottles of BA HBOL. It was a tough job, but we did it for you.

Though we haven’t found any irregularities with any of the bottles that we had, if you had a bottle that just didn’t do it for you, we got your back. Please mail us the label from the bottle to:

Bottles I got were incredible.

 

was at singlecut on saturday..new Rye Whiskey HBOL is significantly better than the BA HBOL they released late last year, and the new batch of Mo Shuggie is fine & dandy!

 

Looking forward to the Whiskey HBOL... Was also there on Saturday thrilled to be able so scoop another 4 pack of Jenny Said... I liked the DDH SSMS, but felt the Jenny was the better beer - and appreciate it coming in under 8%. Not sure how these lasted, but I'll take it!

 

i woke up too late for other half on saturday so i drove over to LIC and singlecut and scooped up some jenny said cans. heard good things and im excited to try. usually dont go out to queens and havent had an excuse to check out the space, love that they do crowlers too

 

Having a Weird and Gilly right now. I've had it before and just like before, this beer is ridiculous. As good as anything I've had, from aroma to taste to mouthfeel.
