Cases....that's the answer. Even with the many new options in PA to buy singles or sixers I keep going back to cases. Long run cheaper. I try mix a six when I can to try beers and then can buy a case. I do buy sixers a lot too but still more cases.

    Enjoy

Depends on if I know it's limited. When I saw xocoveza I got 2 six packs and it was gone next day. Same with the six pack I got of Bells 30th. Hopslam, etc. I have got burned only twice doing this so far. Sadly Watermelon Dorado and that magic hat grapefruit ipa

Singles I usually get stuff that I keep seeing around visit after visit.

Now the real question, do you switch the room temperature single with a fresh cold one from a six pack?

I'm not a ticker nor do I feel the need to buy whatever's popular. 4/6 packs and some I'd buy by the case if possible (SN Kolsch!) Looking to stock up on some Newburgh Cream Ale lately, could drink that all day.

Buying craft I want to try that only comes in 4 or 6 packs makes me expand my beer collection way more than I want to, and usually ends up in me feeling I need to drink it down or stop spending money on beer.

    = not a great feeling.

I like singles unless I'm buying a known favorite or a bulk pack of crushable lagers.

Up until about a month ago I exclusively bought singles since I was new to craft and was trying to figure out what I like. Now that I have a good idea, I still buy singles of new ones I haven't tried, but have also started building up my cellar with 4/6 packs of beers I tried and liked a lot. So far these are all stouts. I am starting to try other styles since stouts are often winter seasonal and some of my favorites will go unavailable soon.

Singles, man. Tickers gotta tick. :grinning:

If it's something that I like and want to keep around, multi-packs are fine with me. I'll also get a four or a six of a limited release occasionally. Most of the time, though, it's singles. I appreciate that the larger HyVee stores in the area carry a decent selection of refrigerated singles.

I'm not interested in singles unless it's a bomber and I'm not interested in bombers if it's also available in a 4 or 6 pack. What am I going to do with one beer?

"None of the above." I didn't vote. (Note to poll posters: Leave out words like "only" and "always"...)

Singles don't work for me even for new beers since I like to give new beers at least 2 tries. So, even if I was buying "singles", I would be buying doubles at a minimum.

Secondly, since I would be buying 2, and since "singles" are more expensive, I have overall saved money buying in 4 or 6 packs.

Thirdly, I have never had a beer that was so bad that I could not enjoy the rest of the pack. But, then, I don't place beer in the "world class" or "drain pour" binary system.

As to preference, my preference is 6 packs of 12 oz bottles or cans. For a casual evening, 1 or 2 12 oz'ers is about right for me. 1 pint is good, but when I want another, 2 pints is many times more than I want, especially for anything over 6-6.5% ABV.

Second choice is 4 packs of pints.

Third choice is 4 packs of 12 oz., but in this package, the beer had better be worth it, since it is usually pricey!

Waaay back are bombers. The pricing is usually a rip-off (way too many mediocre beers masquerading as something special in this package... I understand startup brewers many times start with this package, just don't price it like it is some kind of beer geek nirvana...). I have warmed up to this package since I started using a stopper so I don't have to drink it all in one sitting if I don't want to.

I almost never buy singles, they are usually marked up too much and not many stores near me offer them. I'll buy a mixed 6 on occasion, especially when there is good stuff in the mix-a-six section...yesterday I got 3 Sculpins, a C.R.E.A.M., a Curmudgeon and a Commodore Stout for $10.

I'd prefer singles, and we have a lot of that in my area. But it seems like the new stuff or really good stuff isn't sold that way. Not sure if it's law or brewery request or what.

I enjoy making my own 4/6 pack of new styles as long as the store/distributor checks bottle dates on the singles wall. I've seen too many warm and dusty outdated bottles to make it a regular thing.
But most of the time I'll stick with a standard 4/6 pack or bomber if I can't get it on draft at the local bar. I like happy hours.

The best situation is when a store will allow you to break apart any pack and take a single. I'm not always wanting to commit to a bunch of something new.

No vote because personally I prefer both and only one vote can be made. That way I can enjoy one stop shopping if I know what I want and see something else I'd like to try.

I've only been to a couple places that sell single bottles out of the pack, so I don't really mind but I definitely like being able to get a single of a new beer I haven't tried, just to conserve money while still trying new beers, and if I like it that much I'll search for it again. On the other hand when you buy the whole pack, you have some leftover after you've tried it so you don't have to go back out to get it... I'd probably try more beers overall if I could get one to taste instead of having to buy the whole 4, 6, or 12 pack it comes in.

I've started buying many more 4pks/6pks/12pks and I've almost stopped buying bombers entirely. Bombers are just such a horrid value, I only get them if it's a beer that comes in no other format and I really want it. Additionally, I think that having a full 4/6pk of beer allows for a much better assessment of the beer IMO. Sometimes I'll have days where a beer just doesn't do it for me, but on a different day with a different perspective it can be more enjoyable.

I like the ability to purchase a mix-a-six but unfortunately my local beer retailers tend to use old bottles for their mix-a-six. Given this condition I have not purchased individual bottles in quite some time.

I voted "Don't care" since I want my stores to sell both formats even though the 'reality' for me is I lately have only been purchasing 4/6 packs. Yesterday I bought a 6-pack of Founders Mosaic Promise beer.

    Cheers!

One beer? I need at least 2 to get a good feel for something. Lots of one offs these days as well as limited releases. Get one, come back next week and it's gone? Why bother.
