Today, while shopping in a significant beverage store in Vermont, Heady and SOS was delivered and the can dates for SOS was Feb 25th. Today is March 21st. I have purchased SOS on several occasions and everyone knows it doesn't linger on a shelf for more than a day and each time the can date always seems to be several weeks prior to my purchase date. Does anyone have similar experience or insight? Thanks

I think it is starting to linger a bit now, as the novelty of having it available in cans wears off. Two Roads makes a decent amount of it.

And it is always possible for beer to linger in a warehouse if the employees lose track of it. IMHO distributors are as guilty as stores for beers being old on shelf. I have seen Sierra Nevada, and others, for instance, delivered to my local stores already 3 months old

Seems to be a distribution strategy. Brew large batch once a month or every 6 weeks then choke dist to keep supply below demand. Kind of annoying. If they have the beer - sell it. Since this beer clearly degrades after a few weeks -- even more annoying.

SOS is brewed at Two Roads In CT and right now is only canned once a month. That's why at times the dates on the cans may be a few weeks old. If it's too old for you to drink send it my way and I'll properly dispose of it for you!

But why choke distribution ? Since i can only get 4 bloody cans at a time -- I probalby won't be able to send you any....

Yah tell me about it the bottle shop I get to in Vt gets it ever other week and it's been a one 4 pack limit per. I have heard rumors that production is supposed to increase this spring from 100 barrels per month to 300 barrels per month. Not sure how reliable that is but guess we wait and see.

why is it distributed in and only to Vermont if its brewed in CT?

You can get it in certain areas in CT.

ya, CT gets it too. every 3-4 weeks or so.

just my opinion but Two Roads could cut way back on brewing their own stuff and just brew more Lawson's. I don't know anyone would really be unhappy with that.

It's hard to figure out where, as I need to travel to get it...Vermont is the best bet...for both Heady and Sunshine especially...

Sip of Sunshine is canned twice a month, the 2/26/15 cans are the second time the same batch was sent out for 3 weeks of deliveries (the 12/12/14 cans were sent out for delivery three weeks in a row also). I hold off on purchasing the 3 week old cans until the fresh batch comes out the following week. These cans don't have time to become shelf turds as they are on the radar of most beer hunters that visit Vermont on a daily basis.

I am in CT drinking a Sip canned 02/26/15 as I type. I can not complain about a beer less than 30 days old. They only brew it once a month because Sean Lawson himself comes down once a month to brew it. I am happy to get 8 - 12 a month.. nice to have it in my rotation.

And this is why Heady Topper doesn't have dates on the cans.

Sip of sunshine is distributed the last week or first week of every month. The variations in the dates on the cans is just like you see with Gandhi Bot some distributors and package stores hold onto them to release them throughout the month. To say its lingering because the the novelty is wearing off is a 100% lie/ joke.

I am drinking a 2/26 SOS and I think it tastes like garbage. Very let down right now. Read lots of people putting next or above heady and there's no way that is possible. I'm hoping I just got a shitty batch or an abused 4-pack because besides the 8% abv I'm having a hard time finishing it.

The 2/26 batch was off IMO. Plus this citra heavy beer falls off pretty quickly, more than a month old is a huge change compared to a few days old. The 2/13 batch was amazing. The distro in VT amd CT are a little different. In CT distributors get it every two-three weeks, only after a new batch is brewed and it hits the stores quick, and leaves the stores quicker (3/20 batch was available in most of CT 3/23 and southern CT 3/34.) It seems like the distributor in VT tries to keep regular weekly deliveries. So a new drop might be 3 weeks old. For example i bought a 4 pack of the 2/13 batch at hunger mountain after the 2/26 batch hit CT. I also bought a 4 pack of the 2/26 batch at hunger on 3/22

Appreciate the info. I am hoping that was the case because honestly that beer had none of the character traits that hundreds of reviews have given.

Every can I've had has been awesome and incredibly easy drinking. Even a month old it's great.
