Periodically people want to know information about the site that isn't easy to find. I think on the home page it would be nice to display something like a table showing: Number of beers in the database, number of ratings/reviews, number of countries represented, number of ratings of most frequently rated beer, etc. Putting it on the home page makes it easy for first timers to get a sense of the value of this site as resource, makes it it easy to find again, etc. might even help advertisers realize how many people visit the site, etc if total member members, etc info was there. If needed you could take away our personal stats from display on that page since they are easy to see almost everywhere else.
I think you can go to the top of the home page a find all that info from the pull down tabs...for instance... Click on the "Beer" tab... Under Recent Ratings and Reviews you will see a link to Beer Ratings. If you click on that you'll see that there are 4738 ratings (beers). Also if you click on "Beer Style" you will go to a page that has all the beer styles...then click on "American IPA" for instance and it shows us that there is 6510 ranked by most reviews...from that same page you can click on View the Most Popular: American IPA and see the top 50 rated. I agree it is a little cumbersome but after you do it a few times and figure out what you want to do and what you are looking at it really isn't that hard to figure out. I came across all of it just by looking around the "Home" page one afternoon...cheers!
All of this would require a new table in the database to hold the stats and new scripts to periodically update the stats. It's something we're considering, however, it's not a priority.
