Site Upgrades: October 30, 2013

Greetings!

Today's upgrade contained a significant number of new features and bug fixes that makes for a quicker, more stable and more secure forum and overall site.

Forum
Many of the updates will go unseen, but here are some of the highlights.

• A new editor with drag and drop, image paste support, user tagging and iOS/Android support.
• Auto save drafts or manually save your post to drafts, which are tied to the thread. Abandoned drafts are pruned over time.
• Support for watching an entire forum, so you don't miss a thing.
• Enhanced conversations, including filtering and starring.
• @user tagging. Tagged users will receive an alert when they're tagged.
• A more secure password storage method.
• Tons of new admin features that makes our lives easier.
• Support for responsive design. It's currently disabled, but we'll explore using this in the site redesign.

There's still some minor stylizing and tweaking of settings that needs to happen, but things are looking great.

Non-Forum Updates
On top of the forum upgrade, I've been coding non-stop for the last 24 hours and was able to make the following updates to BeerAdvocate's "legacy code" (original non-forum code):

• Support for Ajax/jQuery.
• Mouseovers (pulldowns) for Member, Inbox and Alerts navigation items now work on non-forum pages, to finally provide a more fluid user experience across the entire site.
• Added pulldowns (quick links) for main navigation. Hover over the navigation item's arrow to activate.
• Log In lightbox dropdown now functional to match forum behavior.
• Numerous template updates to support the upgrade.

Everything has been thoroughly tested, but if you run into any issues please bring them to our attention.

Known Issues:

• Some of you with older accounts (pre-March 2012) might be experiencing log in issues/errors. If you run into this, simply use the "Forgot your password" link to reset your password. This will update you to the new password storage method mentioned above.

 

Updates:

• We applied a fix. Those who were previously having troubles should be able to log in now. Passwords will be updated to the new storage method upon logging in or resetting your password.
