Does this beer age well? Say, like a DFH 90 Minute? A local grocer is selling DT brewed in August 2014 for $10.99 a four pack. I've only had this fresh, and it is top three for me. Should I grab them all? Three 4-packs are sitting there.

I don't think it would be amazing. But probably pretty inoffensive - so right up your street :grinning:

I don't think it'll be bad, but for $11 you could get a six pack of Flower Power, or $9 for something like a four pack of Dirt Wolf. I'd check dates on other options and buy something fresher and more plentiful for the same, or less, money.

I mean, you can spend as you wish - just remember that it won't be the same beer it was five months ago, so it probably won't be Top 3 for you. Do you want to spend $11 on a "decent" offering?

That's a good point. They also have FBS brewed 2 months ago, Dark Penance brewed 2 months ago, and their black rye offering which has a January date on it. I prefer their breakfast stout with at least a year on it, but I think I'm going to pick up one 4-pack of DT, and give this black rye which comes in at 7.5% a go, too.

Why does DFH 90 Minute taste better with age on it? Due to the higher malt content?

Do you mean "better" in regard to fresh vs aged, or why does it taste better than other six month old DIPAs? Either way, I've never had it that old, so I'm not sure what it tastes like or what's going on. And since I don't know the recipe to begin with, I couldn't really begin to speculate.

From what I've read (and youtube reviews) DFH 90 seems to improve with age. A more complex flavor profile appears to blossom over its fresher counterpart. Although, I do love fresh 90 minutes. On tap, especially...

Most people on here would argue that 90-min is not better aged... But you should just buy some old DFH 90 and see for yourself.

    Same with DT.

Also, it's hard to gauge what beers to even recommend to you since you are considering FBS, Dark Penance, and Black Rye, which are all quite different beers. Just buy what you kind of beers you think you'll like or get stuff you haven't had. Don't overbuy beer you don't know if you'll like... they'll always be more beer.

I have had DT at about a year old it was tasty. Very similar to a barleywine. We'll worth $10.99. Taste one now cellar the rest for down the road.
