The only thing that will come of aging this beer will be turning it into a brownie porter as all the coffee and what little vanilla? there is will be long gone soon enough. This shit is the bomb fresh of the line.

It's an outstanding brew. Lots of layers of flavor, coffee, toffee, vanilla, roast without astringency. Flavor delivery is harmonious and not blocky. Smooth transition, coffee up front, then roast, with a little vanilla on the finish.

The one note I will make, serving temp is critical!!! At colder temps I get more heat than I'd like. However, alky burn quickly fades as it warms, letting the other lovely flavors come to the for front. This brew NEEDS to be drank 52 / 55ish to truly experience full flavor punch! Very nice job on this one, and congrats!!!

Exactly what I was waiting for. I love coffee, I love beer, I love just the right amount of carbonation to tickle the palate. Hops, chocolate, vanilla, great mouthfeel....superb. Keep it coming @Sixpoint I'll keep buying. I truly LOVED it. Was tired of the iPas and this is what I needed.

Certainly enjoyed 4beans. However, I'm not with those that find the alcohol totally hidden. I found it fairly hot, maybe less so as it warmed, but still noticeable. Just my humble take.

Nice balance of chocolate and coffee. From my experience, chocolate presents itself in many different ways, with different flavors depending on the beer. I found the 4beans chocolate notes to resemble those of Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout, albeit toned down about 95%. Similar flavor but far different intensity.

I guess it's alright. I'm finishing my 3rd 4-pack in less than 2 weeks. Yay to no-work on Thursday.

Finally snagged a 4-pk yesterday and popped 3 in the cellar, one in the fridge. I agree with the few of you - when cold, the alcohol flavor is pretty pronounced and mellowed considerably as it warmed. I'm not sure if I'd drink it at cellar temp, but it definitely didn't need 2 hours in the fridge. Overall I'd say this is a very good coffee porter, with just a hint of vanilla. Might age one or two cans, but I doubt if I'll keep them down there more than 6-12 months.

It is almost comical how hard this has been to aquire. The 3 local spots I go to for Sixpoint regularly, always fresh, good turn over, only 2 got 1 case. I had to put my name down for a 4 pack at both. Not complaining, as I'll be hooked up, but it was the same routine for KBS and Parabola.
And no, cellaring is for suckers. These babies will go down fresh, as there are too many beers on the horizon.

Trying my first one now. It's delicious. Great cocoa and coffee flavors and so drinkable for the 10 percent.

Nice work on this one gentleman.

I drank mine fresh, but curious as to why you think cellaring is for "suckers." Are you saying that no beer improves (or at least changes) with age? I don't get why someone would be a sucker for choosing to age beer.

    I'd cellar it if:
    a) The brewery recommends it
    b) The fresh isn't as good as the cellared
    c) I have a ton on hand, and couldn't possible drink them all in a short time

None of this applies to 4Beans for me.

Unlike some in this thread, I'd venture that this was the best Baltic Porter I've had. It really hit the right balance of flavors, delivering a rock solid, big porter with a high ABV without becoming a hot mess. Delicious. Hope to see this one again. If I ever do, I'll buy it!

Gotcha. I'm pretty sure Sixpoint said (probably in this thread) that they were cellaring some. To your second point, we have no idea if the fresh is as good as the cellared, as nobody has had time to cellar yet. Finally, while I understand the logic behind your third point, most beers that people cellar are actually the rarer ones. In either case, it seems like 4beans is readily available, at least where I live, so you could cellar some and still have a ton to drink. maybe not hte case here.

Either way, I still don't see how cellaring is for "suckers." It seems like a perfectly legit thing to do, if you're into that kind of thing.

This is indeed one that we believe will be better fresh, as there is not a lot of hops in this beer and over time it definitely will get a lot maltier. That being said, if that's your thing, then aging will be nice.

Fwiw we believe with most beers keeping them in the refrigerator is vastly superior to keeping them in the cellar.

great bro, because we have many more "non-IPAs" in the pipeline...

mild fan, you could say... ;-)

were you able to track some down, and what were your opinions?

thanks - will relay the message to the team

we definitely will be releasing this one again - and we will improve upon it!

as previously stated, we prefer aging in the refrigerator as opposed to the cellar!

Take your time with this one and let it get to room temp if you can....it just gets better and better as it warms!

Still have yet to find this in Louisville. I've stopped and looked once every week since the end of July with no luck.

Tried it multiple times, my zip code and nearby zips return "Sorry. No Results." It's all good though. Where there is a will there is a way haha
