Over 10,000 pints of this beer have already been poured on draft and over 200 cases of 12packs have already been sent to various off-premise stores. Chains such as Whole Foods are getting it set up in their system so you should see even wider distribution soon. NY received the largest allotment of any wholesaler.

I'm picturing you as one of these professor New Englander dudes, lighting cigars with $100 bills, and talking about his golf game. Next time I'm in the area beers are on you. We'll have to sink a few Sam Adams Utopias and then go for the rare Cantillon.

My reference for Helles is Augustiner-Bräu. How close is Alpenflo? If I missed it in the thread, my apology

That is my ideal as well. I remember telling myself that if I got close to Keesmann Helles I would be happy.

Excellent. I see what you did there.

Scott, your honesty is great and your commitment evident. Prost.

Ha, yeah, re-reading my posts I realize I come off as an asshole with tons of money.

Turns out I'm just an asshole.

Well, I guess my point was that the malt profile still stands out enough (and is superb enough), that I don't think the smoky character would "repulse" anyone.

As in, it's not as intense as say the hop profile of an IPL is, in which case the malt profile is completely buried.

I've always felt the BA crowd is indicitve of trends though. For example, how popular IPAs were/have been on here for years, and eventually it became the best selling style in craft beer.

As it should be! This is why I have very little doubt your beers are awesome.

I drive a 2014 Toyota Corolla if it makes you feel any better.

And Utopias is one of the beers I walk by at the liquor store. Cantillon is hard to come by, but I know of one local bar that sells it...although that's another beer I don't buy because of price...

But beers are still on me if you head this way, I owe you for The Crisp you sent me! We can go to Nightshift and drink some Nite Lite's...I'll even pay for the Uber, because I'm rich bitch!

If you could let my wife know that such things are appreciated, that would help a lot. Prost!

My inspiration as well, and which is part of the reason why we have worked on this beer for almost 20 years now. When I dropped out of college and first went to Germany in the late 90s, it was this beer that inspired me to pursue brewing.

Although we are largely known for our ales, my first love was always lagers. The Crisp and the Alpenflo should represent that. If we ever have a chance to drink a beer together, I'd love to tell you about my apprenticeship stories and what its like to learn about making beer over in Germany.

    cheers

p.s. check out this link and look at the "favorite beer" section at the end

I probably agree with this opinion more than you might think, but I really don't believe there's much Munich Helles interest in either niche segment, let alone the larger population of beer drinkers in the U.S. In my own opinion, that's really a shame -- if a beer drinker has never tasted a fresh, well-made Helles (and understand what to expect), they don't know what they're missing.

Solid agreement. Even the breweries that make Oktoberfests and Maibocks that are good, to my palate, seem to fall short when attempting a light lager. It's probably why they opt for Pilsners -- they can tweak the flavor easier with hops than malt or rigorous mashing.

Maybe you can hitch a ride with a Canadian or an Ohioan on their way to Hilton Head and have them drop you off in Columbia.

Seriously, though, if you're ever nearby, definitely would love to have some beers and chat.

Also, that Daniel Hartis has good taste in who he features for that column. http://allaboutbeer.com/scott-burgess-bierkeller-columbia/

@Sixpoint, when can we expect to see Alpenflo in Indiana? I'm pretty jealous of the neighbors in Ohio.

@Sixpoint I was just going over the invoice to put this in our system and we were charged $32.95 per case for the Alpenflo. I saw you mention ~$1.40 per can, but that is supposed to be retail not wholesale correct?

Is that a case of 12 or 24? Because, if it's 24 the cost per can is almost perfect.

    $32.95 / 24 = $1.37 per can
