I really love Jack's Abby, had another House Lager along side my last Alpenflo (plus the really enjoyable Tampa Lager) and again my opinion differs greatly from yours. This last Alpenflo was much less fizzy than the others in the same 6 pack but it had little malt prescence. Why are 6 beers in the same 6 pack all over the place? I don't care for Copper Legend but Red Tape is really nice. They have a whole canned Kellerbier series only available at the brewery. Plus more dark beers. Those are all worth the trip to Framingham.

I sought out the Rye Kellerbier with great fury, to no avail. Missed it by a day or two in one instance.

I still haven't seen Alpenflo but this thread did prompt me to buy the first sixer of Jack's Abby House Lager I've picked up in months (since my default JA is either Post Shift or whatever seasonal is on). Thanks folks!

Sunny Ridge can be a bit hit or miss year to year, but more often than not I like it. It’s really improved over the years.

I hadn’t had Smoke and Dagger in a long time. But the last couple cans I had were quite smoky.

Could the variability in the Alpenflo be your palate? Personally with a delicate style like a Helles what I’ve drank and eaten that day can drastically impact what I perceive in this style.

Also, their Kellerbier series does see distribution in MA.

I'm not your average NEIPA drinker who discovered beer 3 years ago and who just started dabbling in lagers!

The first can was a gusher, went all over the floor. 2 others were way too fizzy and I also mixed 2 into a liter mug so not sure about those. Each time I've had an Alpenflo from this 6 pack I've also had either a JA House Lager or Cigar City Tampa Style. I bought them all together - and used the House Lager as the control group since I know it so well.

I love going up to MA on business, I stock up - but rarely get anything hoppy.

I gotta say, I love both beers very much but I feel like agree with both you and @Ahonky to an extent. Alpenflo, when I had it, was the better helles. It was much softer than what you were describing. However, Jack’s Abby House Lager is an unfiltered Helles (aka landbier or whatever). Neither beer are worth comparing to in my opinion.

All that being said, when fresh I’d take a house lager over an Alpenflo if I were pressed.. (yes, maybe my MA homerism is showing but I’ll stand by it)

The six pack I recently got of Alpenflo had some foaming issues that were mostly mitigated by pouring into a glass relatively quickly. The more recent pack my brother bought foamed like one of my shoddily bottle conditioned homebrews that I made in the past. Loved the original 12 packs of this beer, but these new ones have some issues.
