Just tried a can this evening. Why is this beer rated so highly?

I'll give them props for tweaking a kristalweizen recipe but Apollo can't hang with the big boys (Weihenstephaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Tucher).

Darn it, I couldn't find your review of it so I could see why you didn't give it the thumbs up...

my best friend keeps sending me texts raving about this beer. can't wait to try a few cans this weekend at BBQ our other friend it throwing.

and yeah, my advice is to check reviews if you're interested in what people like about the beer.

I tried it....it certainly isn't a bad beer but I certainly wouldn't go around raving about it.

What about it are you missing? Personally, I get more banana in the nose than any other wheat beer in recent memory, might be the best part of the beer. Then you taste it, and you get another blast of banana and bubble gum. Incredibly drinkable, and the best American-made hefeweizen (yeah I know it's listed as a kristal) I've ever had. And that's no knock on my two previous favorites, Dreamweaver and Kellerweis. I definitely think it can hang with the big boys from Germany. To each their own, but what about it didn't you like?

To answer your question directly, try taking the time to read the reviews. Your answer lies there, which makes this thread (and all other threads like this one) pointless; I think we'll make this a new rule.

    Cheers!
