That's odd. I tried my first Apollo last night, best by 8/22/12 I think. It had a bit of tangy, tart lemon taste at first when it hits your tongue but had an all banana, clove and yeast finish. Smell was all banana, from the smell I wasn't expecting it to be tart at all.

If I buy some more I hope they're all like that, it was great and really refreshing on a hot day.

I think apollo was good, but drank this yesterday and...Apollo is completely blown out of the water by this german brew:

    Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier!

I never know anything about the Sixpoint beer sitting in front of me at the store so I never buy it.

Dredging up an old thread, but does anyone know what hops are used in this beer? It seems very Nelson Sauvin-y to me, but I haven't been able to find any recipes..

Great beer. I wish it was in twelve oz six packs.

Yeah...Im surprised there too. I get the traditional aromatics and flavors in the beers as well. Just a lighter body than a regular Hefe, which is to be expected as it is simply a filtered Hefe. Someone mentioned the Weihenstephaner Kristal...Beauty! Their hefe is my go to for the style.

50/50 Bavarian wheat and barley malt split, with light use of German Hersbrucker hops...and a proprietary German yeast culture.

I had to pour one of these out a couple of weeks ago - it tasted like cottage cheese.

Apollo was a fail for me. It didn't look like, or taste like, a krystalweizen. I don't remember if the can states that was the intended style or not. And Sixpoint's website doesn't claim what style it's supposed to be (at least not that I saw).

The cans I had did not pour a beer that looked filtered. And even if it was a hefeweizen, it would still be a mess. I generally love everything Sixpoint does...I may have had a bad 4 pack. Don't remember what the enjoy by date was but I check dates on every beer I buy other than some big beers.

I'm with the OP. Delicious beer perfectly made for the style but don't drink it if you don't like tart.

One can I had tasted slightly vinegar-y. The first few (same 4-pack) had a strange taste. Maybe I had a bad batch. I homebrewed a hefe that I had no choice but to pack on a moving truck into the southwest heat, which killed the yeast and made it taste like soy sauce. So it can happen.

I love hearing this, because Apollo was, for me, the fastest drain-pour ever. I managed a couple of sips before tossing it. And, I got the can from a friend who said, "You've got to try this beer. It's the worst thing I've ever tasted." I gave it an open minded try, but I was not a fan... Anyway, I like the thought that there are tons of interesting types of beer out there and that people's tastes are extremely different. Enjoy!

The Original Post was made on June 20, 2012. Unfortunately the last two beers of that four pack had ‘issues’:

“I bought a 4-pack from a beer store which had his beer refrigerated. I had the beer home in less than 20 minutes and immediately put it in my refrigerator. The first two beers were tasty and pleasant. The last two beers (which were consumed in July; the can had a best by date of late September) were not good. I actually dumped the last (4th) Apollo.”

You can read the above on the other thread that I provided a link to.

I have come to the conclusion that the Sixpoint beers that are contract brewed at the Lion Brewery (the canned beers) are inconsistent.

    Cheers!

Apollo is great. I really ought to pick some up if I see it the next time I go beer shopping.

Picked up a 4 pack of this last Weekend. I was really impressed. Been backing off IPA's of late trying to reset my palate some. Tart is definitely the right word to put to this brew. Gotta say I enjoyed it more the colder i drank it. Resin is still my goto from them, however this now is #2.
