Sixpoint now distributing to Portland. I thought this was coming soon. Thoughts anyone?

    Article linked below.

Brooklyn, New York’s Sixpoint Brewing launches in Portland next week with release parties for its cans and draft beer becoming available through Running Man Distributing. Already a popular brewery on the east coast, Sixpoint may be best known to Portlanders for its 3 Bean Stout collaboration with Stumptown Coffee and owner Shane Welch’s regular appearances in town.

Founded in 2004 by Andrew Bronstein and Shane Welch, Sixpoint initially sold only draft beer to local bars, but after beginning canning in 2011, the brewery’s beers are available all over the Northeast and have become quite popular. Sixpoint has great branding and packaging, with sharp, clean graphics and a signature slim 12oz can like those that hold a Starbucks Frappuccino or a Red Bull. I am happy to say that we will be getting all four of the year-round beers in cans: The Crisp Pilsner, Sweet Action Cream Ale, Bengali IPA, and Resin Imperial IPA.

Running Man Distributing will also be bringing in some limited draft and seasonals, like Global Warmer Imperial Red and Lump of Coal Porter,, which just debuted at the Holiday Ale Festival.

Sixpoint co-owner Shane Welch spends a lot of time in Portland, so distribution here seemed inevitable. Next week we will be lucky enough to have his presence along with his beers at a series of launch events around Portland.

I've had Resin a couple times, not bad at all. I'd like to try Three Beans if they make it again.

Anyone know when Sixpoint stopped canning Righteous Ale (if they indeed did stop)? I'm a big fan of this beer.

@Sixpoint, is Portland planned to be the only distro point, or will other parts of OR see your beers soon?

three beans was phenomenal. resin is totally solid. actually, i've been pretty happy with just about every sixpoint beer i've managed to get. hopefully this is just the tip and we'll see them expand more on this side of the country...

I had Bengali and Resin when I was out east just over a month ago and liked neither.

Maybe it's just a style problem, as I'm with you completely on this (and sixpoint in general). Their stuff was readily available when I lived on the East Coast, and I even went to a sixpoint tap takeover at a bar in Baltimore, where I think there were more than 20 of their beers on tap. I didn't try anything that came close to wowwing me. Not that their stuff was bad, but they just aren't one of those breweries that ever got me too excited when I saw their beer on the menu.

I remember being particularly disappointed with the Bengali IPA, especially after all the hype I had heard about it. Again, not a bad beer, but it just wasn't my cup of tea, and it's hard for me to picture it competing with some of the better IPA's here in the NW.

That being said, I've heard nothing but good things about Three Beans, but unfortuately, I never got to try it when I lived back East.

Having never tried their beers, I can't comment on that aspect.

However, it looks like they are distributed in 6 packs (which I actually think are pretty underrepresented here by Oregon breweries). They also have interesting branding and they can. If their price point is competitive (< $10/6), I think they will do just fine.

I think its interesting though that they are basically flying over the "fly over" states to come directly to Portland. I wonder why that is?

One of the owners spends part of the year in Portland. It's mentioned in the article.

yeah i get that. But seems like making a business decision to distribute beer across the country is based on more than just the owner spends time here.

The founder went to UW-Madison and thus their beer is distributed in Madison, so I wouldn't overthink it

Ale Apothecary ships to Vermont because of family ties. It's not that crazy.

The ones I had were borderline bad. I think I had Resin first and found it to be extremely malty. A few days later I saw Bengali on tap in Plymouth and gave it a shot against my better judgement. The flavors didn't mesh at all and the hops had a weird herbal thing going on that I found unpleasant.

It's too bad because I love the look of their new cans ... enough so that I'd give them another shot if we got them here in WA.

Bell's sent beer to Arizona long before much closer markets because Larry goes to the Cubs' spring training every year.

As for Sixpoint's beer, I think The Crisp is a really nice pilsner that tends to fly under the radar, so that may be worth checking out if you haven't been impressed with their IPAs.

We did do a draft version and also a bourbon barrel aged version this year - very limited quantities.

Hi Buckeye - the Righteous Ale is still being made, but its not one of the canned offerings at this time.

at this time, we are focusing exclusively on the Portland metro area

    thanks!

bummer, let's get you some Global Warmer and Hi-Res!

we have some other beers that might be close equivalents for you...

it will be...but first we need to introduce you to our core beers :-)

let's meet up for a beer and talk about it!

    Hi John,

I think you might be referring to our tap event at Max's Taphouse? There were a variety of issues with that event. It would be good to sit down with you and taste the beers now - fresh. Given your inclination to like clean-fermented, hoppy beers, I think you'll be quite satisfied.

Its because you have to fly over these states to get to the awesome state of Oregon. ;-)

yeah, too much thinking causes the brain to hurt :-)
yup, there are lots of examples of this....here is a recent one:

    http://mouthbysouthwest.com/2014/10...t-az-beer-scene-their-new-scottsdale-brewpub/

"“One of our main things is family, and we have family out there,” Jason Ebel (pictured above on the right) says by phone from Illinois. “For years I’ve come out to Arizona as often as I can.”

I had resin and bengali when i was in NY a few months back. bengali was decent, resin was pretty good. lots of stiff competition in portland market but adding some more quality to the market is always good in my opinion...

also, i love that @Sixpoint is on here replying to every single post...find me another brewery that pays that much attention to what its customers are saying...going to be tough for me NOT to buy some sixpoint next time i am in portland just for the customer service factor.
