So, I was out of state this past weekend, visiting family in NY (Long Island), thought I'd stop by a local distributor to see if I could find anything not easily found at home (PA). One of the things I picked up was a four pack of Sixpoint The Crisp; not one of the higher-rated Sixpoints from what I've read here, but I was curious. Anyhow, went to open the carton and put a couple cans in the fridge, noticed "Best by Dec 2012" stamped on the carton. At first I'm thinking "OK, six months old can't be too bad...", then I realize it's a year and a half at least that this must've been sitting on this guy's shelf. I didn't drink any - yet. Here's my question: can old beer ever make one sick, or does it just taste like crap? Probably a dumb question, but something I've been curious about...
You'll be fine, might not taste too "crisp," tho. The IPAs are the ones that really lose the freshness of the hops. I'd still drink what you bought but don't expect a stellar experience. Pilsners are better when drank before the expectation date.
It won't hurt you, but the beer will most likely be a shell of what it was when it was fresh. Pilsners are best consumed when fresh! Bet you'll check dates in the future lol.
That beer is pushing two years old. It's going to suck. It won't kill you, but if you're used to fresh beer you're probably not going to enjoy it. I love the Crisp (have some in the fridge now as a matter of fact). I have had one in the past that was eight months old and it was not good at all. May as well crack it open for yourself and find out!
Ha... yeah, it never occurred to me until now that beer would be sitting on a distributor's shelf that long! The place seemed to have a great selection too... now I wonder how old some of it was!
