I apologize if this is posted elsewhere in the forums, did a search and nothing came up. I recently (two days ago) got my new issue of BA in the mail and saw an ad from SKA Brewing in it. It depicted a Mandarin version of their Modus Hoperandi beer. Now I must say I am a huge fan of that beer already, but this "Mandarina" version sounds awesome! I can't seem to find anything online about it being canned and released at all, anyone have more info on it?

Can't seem to find an image of it online either but it was artwork similar to their normal Modus cans but orange(of course) and the SKA guys on the label had oranges for heads.

Thanks in advance guys, let's discuss!

Sounds great. I had no idea this existed either. Modus is my favorite IPA and I really enjoy Mandarina Bavaria hops, too.
    What's not to love?

Exactly what the OP said and I've been keeping my eyes "peeled". (Bad pun here ... :grimacing:) . Between this and Citrusinensis, July is gonna be tasty!

I'm kinda bummed to learn that SKA doesn't have their own BA acct. I wonder if there are any reps that float around on here from time to time?

It's true... Look for it on shelves the end of summer. It is a unique twist on Modus Hoperandi, a citrus IPA dry-hopped
with a generous portion of Mandarina Bavaria hops and brewed with sweet orange peels. Abv: 6.8% More info coming soon!

It's good. I've had it on tap (I believe at Avery Sour Fest). Which reminds me...when the hell is Avery going to reschedule Sour Fest?!

Ska Brewing is about 10 minutes from my house (lucky me!) and they did not have these cans in the cooler when I was there two days ago. I called the tasting room this evening (7/9/2015), and the person thought the beer would be available in August. She did not even know that the beer was being canned. I had it last year on tap at Ska, and it was GREAT. Just the right amount of orangey flavor - not overdone. Orange peels and mandarina bavaria hops were used in the brewing process then, so hopefully that will be the case for the canned product.

If you like modus you live this. It's great. Brewed originally last years for that Kyle guy from SCI with his brew collab tour or something if memory serves. Nice to see this make it to can release

I think Modus is too bitter. Hopefully this isn't.

Speaking of Ska, I wanted to go their 21st anniversary as an excuse to check the brewery, the fest/reel big fish, and the durango area but it sold out a lot faster than I thought it would. Still might try to make the trip sometime this summer.

Ska Brewing to Release Modus Mandarina

DURANGO, CO., (September 17, 2015)- Ska Brewing is announcing the release of Modus Mandarina IPA, an India Pale Ale brewed with orange peels and generously hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops. The release will coincide with the Great American Beer Festival the week of September 21.

The beer originally brewed 3 years ago as a special release, is the first cousin of Ska’s award winning Modus Hoperandi—brewed essentially the same but with a citrus twist.

“The dry-hopped addition of the Mandarina Bavaria give the beer a distinct aroma of tangerine and citrus,” said Thomas Larsen, head brewer at Ska. “However, the orange peels added to the beer give it just a subtle touch of orange in the flavor profile.”

Modus Mandarina will see its initial release at various Ska Brewing events throughout Denver during the week of the Great American Beer Festival, and will also be distributed initially throughout Colorado, Southern California, Arizona and Illinois. A complete list of Ska’s events during the Great American Beer Fest can be found at www.skabrewing.com.

I was seriously under the impression the cans were a troll from how bad the promo art was. :grimacing:
