They hit the shelves today in Boulder. First time to have this beer. Gotta say, I'm impressed with Ska's mod of the modus.

Had at gabf today. Wow that was completely underwelming. Seriously that was the most malty ipa I had at the fest ans probably my least favorite

Drinking one right now-- sixer was 8.99 at the King Soopers across from my gym in Glendale--and I like it a lot but it's a very, I dunno, English or old school US IPA. Mandarina Bavaria hop to me has a very slightly tangerine hit on top of a more woody/leathery thing. Like say If you were dry hopping a home brew with 40% Northern Brewer,40% Fuggles and 20% Centennial, it might be like a single hop w/ Mandarina Bavaria.

So not juicy, not Citra plus Amarillo, but to me a nice well made beer, and kinda old school.

Madarina hops have always come across as a subdued cascade to me.

Anyone surprised by the malt character is clearly not familiar with modus. It never claimed to be a VT ipa

Mandarinas taste like their namesake to me. Modus is lord of the old school IPA, so the body's no surprise.
Plus, this beer also has a TON of orange character from the zest.
Not quite as extreme, but closer to something like Grapefruit Sculpin than a typical IPA. The zest is potent and unmistakable. It wouldn't shock me if they tossed into some juice or extract.
I like it a lot, but it's not for everyone. Personally, I hope they have a new mixed pack with it. Modus, Mandarina, and Euphoria would be a killer hoppy beer pack.

Had one from a can last night and I agree with what @Domingo said...right down to the comparison with Grapefruit Sculpin. This would be a good summer quaff but it definitely is not a hop bomb in the style of other IPAs out there.

I've never been a big drinker of Modus and frankly didn't recall the malt character. Opened one of these tonight and absolutely hated it. I'm not sure how it can be called an IPA at all (forget a VT IPA), and the orange was buried under the malt. I dumped mine, terrible. Glad this was only $9.

I'm not a fan either but my buddy's from Dallas in for gabf loved it. They left a 6er in my fridge which I'm trying to get through but it ain't easy. To each his own.

So, does it have orange juice/zest in it, like Grapefruit Sculpin has juice/zest in it? I bought a 6'er of GS, and couldn't stand it either.

Really? I like regular Sculpin, but thought the grapefruit version was total shit. I can't believe I managed to get through the sixer.

Can says it is brewed with orange peels.

I like Modus Mandarina for what it is, but I am not sure how many I can drink. I bought a sixer ten days ago and still have one left. Same goes for Grapefruit Sculpin...the fruit gets kind of tiresome.

I can see it getting old after a while. I've had 3 cans so far and still enjoy it. I guess we'll see how often I buy it in a few months. I still like the idea of a Ska pale ale multi-pack.

I can see people liking this beer, but I didn't so much care for it. I didn't finish the can. I feel like I had an allergic reaction to it. I don't remember liking Modus Hoperandi either.
