Some times I think about the stronger ales, and many times I don't really care for any substantial amount of alcohol to be on the palate. So in the fairness of it being a slow, boring day, and I hope that this thread isn't thought of as completely worthless. What have you? - see thread title. Let's start with Impy Stouts.

I'm enjoying a Green Flash Double Stout, and I'm thinking, this is nice and thick, full of flavor and body, and not a hint of booze on the tongue, yet it warms the body nicely. Very delicious! Of course, Old Rasputin is the old standby for this designation, so you may as well leave that beer as goes without saying! Another beer I was blown away by was Bear Republic's Big Bear Black Stout. Wow! For a chocolate forward stout, it seemed really complex and balanced. Then of course there's the first Impy Stout I ever had, the Samuel Smith 7%, which is still very nice.

O'Dempsey's "Your Black Heart" RIS is one of my favorites in the sub-9% ABV realm.

Readily available (in season) BA Stout in 12 oz. bottles for $10-11/4-pack? Doesn't get much better than that.

I really appreciated the straightforward simplicity of Sprecher's RIS.

Close call between the regular Nogne O Imperial Stout and the Närke Stormaktsporter (only had Konjaks! at BBF). Both are boozy and packed with flavor for the 9%. I would have to give the slightest edge to the latter, and not just because of its insane rarity. It's beautifully balanced and the positives greatly outweigh the negatives such as the fairly thin mouthfeel.

100% agree with O'Dempsey's Your Black Heart. Outstanding fresh and aged.
Honorable mentions to Rasputin and Sammy Smith.

After thinking about it more, I forgot Founders Breakfast Stout. So my two favorites would be FBS and Kern River Class V Stout.

Edit above (time ran out). I'm including Impy Stouts in the RIS category since they are practically the same.
