Slow-turning Pages

    For about the past week I've experienced some slow-turning pages, around 15 seconds, and maybe once every 8-10 page turns. It seems to be getting worse as far as its frequency, but still around 15 seconds. And it happens across all three devices that I use for BA.

    Anyone else getting this?

    If by "slow turning pages" you mean that you click on a link, the page goes blank, and the scroll bar at the top reaches halfway and stalls -- then yes, I'm experiencing these lags. Sometimes happens on first connection to the site.

    I haven't timed it because I guess I'm just not that patient. I click the back button to try again. I also get out of the site completely and reconnect. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

    Known issue. On Wednesday I adjusted our Cloudflare security rules to help solve a decline in programmatic ad revenue.

    One of a few adjustments was removing a long list of countries that we get a serious amount of bot traffic from being "managed challenge," which helps to determine if the visitor is legit or not. But with this turned off it's putting a serious strain on our resources.

    I plan on slowly reverting back to see if the revenue impact persists, which will then allow me to rule it out as a cause. You should see overall site performance increase as this happens too.

    The previous security rule has been reapplied. We should see a big improvement to site performance soon.

    No, my screen just goes all black until the selected page shows up. It almost seems like it only happens when I change from one forum to another, but I haven't tracked that specifically. However, it may also be happening sometimes when changing pages within a forum.

    As @beergoot just reminded me, lingering issues from the massive Amazon Web Services (AWS) outages this week could also be impacting the many connections between your browser and the site.

    I've been looking at the site pretty regularly and I haven't noticed any lag.

    Then it's definitely an issue somewhere between you and the site.

    Sounds like the same as me. I just happened to notice the progress bar stalled at half way.

    I don't fully understand your explanation in your post above, but whatever you did worked. I just bounced around the site with "blazing" speed for the past minute on my desktop. Thanks for the fix.

    EDIT: I just checked the site on my phone and it is still getting hung up sometimes when switching forums but not every time, and not for as long. So things are improving, but I'll continue to monitor.

    Wasn't an explanation, but more of a post-adjustment update stating that I'm not experiencing any issues. (The site isn't either.)

    Site has been really laggy for a few days now, especially tonight fyi, and it’s never been like this

    Yeah, I'm still getting it too, but it's better now than earlier this seek. It just seems inconsistent.

    It’s very laggy to me, although I enjoy the site so much I’ll give a lot of leeway.
    When post image is terrible, it kills my spirit and I just do something else.
    Someday when it’s smooth as a sunshine day, and we can post pics directly

    Like @detgfrsh mentioned, you can fix a lot of general connection issues by using an alternative DNS service. I recommend Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS. It's fast, private, secure, and doesn't sell your data (unlike most ISP and mobile service provider). Simply scroll down to the setup instructions on the following page...

    https://one.one.one.one/dns/

    Personally, I've got it setup on my router, use the iOS app as needed, and also set it up in Firefox under "Enable DNS over HTTPS using" just in case.

    And, as BeerAdvocate's domain and DNS is hosted with Cloudflare, your connection to the site should be greatly improved too.
