Sly Fox has a brewhouse and restaurant in Phoenixville, PA along with a brewery and a small tasting room in Pottstown, PA. No idea why there are separate listings for those beers. Route 113 IPA is canned and draft only.

I get that there should be different place listings. But I expected something similar to what I see for Rogue or Cascade -- one with beer listings, the rest without. Or like Maui, where the brewery lists the packaged beers, and the brewpub all of the rest. In either case, we don't have beers repeating, like Sly Fox does.

This is why we can't have nice things.

What happens is that people can't be bothered to search for the beer and instead add it again under the second location. Eventually it will be converted to a 'master' listing in the style of Granite City, but it's a time-consuming process to merge the two for precisely for the reasons you mentioned: someone has to crosscheck the slight variances in name spelling, ABV, availability, style, etc. and then we also have to warn dumb users who cross-posted reviews under multiple listings of the same beer that one of them is going to get overwritten.

You don't know how many people send change requests asking me to unretire the redundant Maui beers listed under the brewpub because they are unable to find the brewery listings, or complain that they can't review beers listed under defunct chain brewpub locations.

The bottom line is that lazy and ignorant users create problems faster than Todd and Jason can correct them. We're taking steps to allow other editors to be able to share the burden, but we're also playing it cautious so that no one's reviews are inadvertently deleted.

There still is a brewpub in Phoenixville and brewery in Pottstown. What exactly are you trying to fix?

Follow the links on the original post, and explain the rationale for duplicates. Would you find it proper to have separate listings for Budweiser, depending on which location brewed it?

I wasn't replying to you I was replying to Centennial.

I agree with you that there shouldn't be duplicate entries for Sly Fox but it sounds like it's the users putting it in that messes it up. Sounds like it's a hard thing to combine although a service like Untappd manages to merge duplicate entries but there system may be a lot easier than this one.
