saw it for sale at the whip in, made the mistake of buying a shmaltz sweet 16 instead. has anyone tried it? is it a barleywine as rumored?

I drank one last night, it's pretty much an english barleywine. The oak is pretty strong and the hops are still sticking around, so it's definitely not my favorite of the style, but it's is good. I'd give it a 3.75, so I'm not sure if it warrants the 7$ price tag from Whip In, but it should improve with some age.

It is ia a barleywine as it states on the website. Have not tried any so I'm curious as to what others think. I've never had a barleywine so I'm not sure what to expect. Any introductory ones to try or should I just jump right in? Recently had their OPA and I was impressed as I'm not a pale ale kinda guy. Like most here, I prefer IPAs.

Soooo, i guess the question is really, english or american barleywine? one says english but someone else states he likes hops, which if its hoppy, its more an american.

Id like to know cause, as most of you know, hops suck. ;0)

i know i know, its mostly me, i say mostly cause i know more of you agree with me, just not many

I must say, I do prefer the English Barleywines to the American Barleywines.

I tried it at Freetail. Honestly was not that impressed. It was way over carbonated, but Freetail warned me about that issue as they were trying to fix it. For me it was just way too boozy and the wine characteristics overwhelmed any barleywine characteristics. It might get better with a little age though.
