It's a little myopic to say that in general craft beer prices have gone up 50% in the last 5 years. Some have, some haven't. I'm not happy about it either but the price of everything has gone up in the last 5 years, should beer be different? And if it bothers you so much, stop buying it or buy less. It's a luxury, not a necessity.

I don't disagree with anything you said, my point though was never that it should be different, only that I wish it were.

I like how that guy craps on Xyauyu because of the price. There's nothing wrong with breweries charging what they want, demand will eventually correct prices or the beers will disappear. Raising the perceived value of beer is good if we want to see more good beer in more places.

Understood. Maybe if you wish enough it will come true, just like a lie told enough times gets taken for the truth.

Boy, I sure hope not, either. [/sarc]

To be fair, I hope beer in general doesn't turn into an auction-driven market in the way that wine has. But on the positive side, it would provide the opportunity for people in other parts of the world to get their hands on rare beers, wouldn't it?

People are paying up to $45 for a bomber of Lawson's Double Sunshine, freakin' nuts! Sure, great beer, but c'mon already.

Only a matter of time before we see $50 bombers at breweries for "limited release". Prices have gone up $1-5 in even the last 6 months around where I live.

This is bullshit. I deserve world class beer for mediocre beer prices. I can't believe these jerks are forcing me to pay so much.

What makes you say we are paying mediocre beer prices now? If you go by macro beer prices we are still paying a premium for premium beer. The question is when does the scale tilt and make people say enough and just stop buying?

DDG was $40. The Bruery has already breached $50

Wait... Did you just put "beer" and "world class" in the same sentence? It's freakin' BEER!

People put wine into "world class". I'd rather drink a great beer than wine which makes me think you could categorize beer into world class depending on which beer you're talking about.

Kinda sad though. I was at a 4 star restaurant this weekend and I asked if they had a craft beer selection. "Nope". :slight_frown:

    It isn't wrong.

Just as it isn't wrong for those of us without the money to afford them to speak out in regret that this as just another step along the way of being unable to afford to enjoy some things that once were easier to get and less expensive.

Eh, luckily people with money don't have to care what people without money have to think.

How true. Yes, I know you said it jestingly.

Don't know if I am glad, or sad, that I likely never will have the opportunity to test the truth in J.P. Morgan's condemnative quote, "I've never met a poor man who didn't want to be rich, and I've never met a rich man who was happy."

I'm pretty sure that no matter what beer/brewery you are thinking of, it doesn't come close to fine wine pricing.

Well, Utopias is "world-class" according to BA, and I have seen it listed for upwards of $699 for a 24 oz bottle.

    really... http://pacificonlinespirits.com/sam-adams-utopia-collectors-edition.aspx

For a "Sam Adams..." of all things. Even MSRP is ~$190.
