    So, Boston:

I recently moved from Texas (Dallas - Ft. Worth area) where we had a share group that would meet every couple weeks (in the beginning, with only three people) that evolved to meet weekly with a rotation of roughly 20 people. It was awesome; we had great times with wonderful beer. I'm posting this to test the water and see what kind of response it will get. Perhaps a few of us could meet at a BYOB place (I got lazy reading the ABCC regulations, but it seems legal) and go from there. It a good chance to try some other things, anyway; enough trading happens that few things are duplicated. What's the word? Anyone in?

I'm in the same boat. Just moved here from St. Louis. Would definitely be interested in meeting some other people into the craft scene. I don't currently have a ton to share (next trip home), but am pretty sure my personality would be enough!

Count me interested. There is an existing group/thread on bottle share/meetups but it is pretty dead. We ended up meeting 2-3 times but nothing consistent. I can add you to that list as well.

I do not think we have any BYOB spots, besides a random sushi spot with a handful of tables.

We have a tasting group that currently meets almost weekly, but would be possible to expand. Where are you guys located in the area? I have a place that can hold like 10 people but it's not T-accessible unless you take a bus.

I may be interested in something like this now and again. I'm pretty booked though at least mid November, but at some point in the near future I would like to get involved in something like that. I live in Newton, for what that's worth.

I'm in Somerville. No car personally, but I do have access.

Also, are there any places where "beer nerds" tend to hang out. For instance, in stl perennial had weekly releases on Thursdays. Although not officially a bottle share, people quite often would bring various goodies in which to partake.

Not that I know of, the breweries in the area aren't all that accessible and not even sure bottle sharing at them would be legal.
I have heard of a Somerville group but I'm not sure about that either.
Boston definitely needs more get togethers. The beer community here is a bit lacking compared to the size.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm on the North Shore and interested. Anyone keeping a list of who's interested?

I'm glad to hear some people are down. I'll work on something to collaborate on as well.

One of the issues is finding a byob place. I don't actually know any in Boston proper, and once you get outside the city you restrict people without cars (and theres always the issue of drinking and driving).

There are several BYOB places in Boston city limits. IIRC the law is you can't be both BYOB and have any sort of liquor license. I think the big issue is finding a place that doesn't have a license, meaning not a bar atmosphere, that wants a bunch of people drinking and sharing bottles at their restaurant.

Or perhaps a bar owner that someone is buddies with that doesn't mind (or isn't scared of the ABCC implications of) beer being brought in.

I'm primarily a wine-lover, who recently took the dip into craft beer b/c it's cheaper and we started a family. So I know of several BYO spots in the metrowest area, three in Wellesley including Yama Sushi, Cafe Mangal and Jimmy's Cafe. The Il Forno chain also allows BYO.

I'd be interested in joining so keep me in the loop.

I can host at my place if it's like 15 people max, I have a mid size apartment on the west Roxbury/Dedham line. Accessible by bus pretty easy.

Quick question say 1 person brings a 12oz bottle of X and there are 10 guys at the tasting everyone gets an ounce pour ? ....

We normally just try to organize it so that there aren't many 375 or 12oz bottles. Either bring 2, find someone else to bring one, or just bring something else

I'm in a bottle share group right now that just expanded from 5 to 10 people this week. We are meeting up tomorrow and I can ask what their thoughts are.

We are also experiencing the issue of running out of space at people's apartments and trying to find a BYOB place. A friend of mine said that there aren't any BYOB places in Boston proper.

There aren't b/c it's illegal in MA to allow BYO if you have a liquor license, and most (if not all) restaurants in Boston have one.

I would be certainly be interested; I tend to buy more then I can drink in any reasonable amount of time. I believe Sweet Basil in Needham is still BYOB...but I understand the have to get back home issue.
