Not looking for breweries brewing good beers that will be well received for the masses, but those taking chances with styles that will offend many. My two favorite bigger examples are Hermit Thrush and Earth Eagle Brewings.

Love what Hermit Thrush are doing. Also think Lost Nation and 4 Quarters would be in this category!

Night Shift is definitely taking chances and making interesting beers...

These two are on my radar and will be visiting within the next month. I'll have HF in there and just MIGHT head to Schilling.

My first thought was Rockingham Brewing in Derry, NH. Their bacon stout (and particularly its maple variant) are fantastic.

Mystic and Idle Hands/Enlightenment should also be mentioned. Enlightenment is on an indefinite hiatus at the moment, but their beers are still out there and well worth seeking out.

Oec is weird in that they are putting out weird beers. I don't feel like they are "taking chances" for a few reasons. They are near 0 chance and also making beer geek honey.

Beerd is doing nothing risky. That's a laugh.

Just started seeing these hit the shelves in my area. I'm usually a lean towards sweet instead of savory when it comes to stouts, but with the cold weather is will be a pick-up.

Banana Creme Stouts, Parsnip Belgian Tripels, Tea infused ESBs: all offered by Glass Bottom Brewing in Lee, MA.

Cucumber Ales, Sour Peach Wheats, Agave Blondes: Barreled Souls in Saco, ME.

Also echoing sentiments for Night Shift.

OEC in Oxford, CT. Mostly wild and openly fermented ales (they have a copper AND a concrete coolship) and grow a lot of the herbs and spices they use to brew the beers.

Medusa in Hudson throws out a lot of stuff that is not common today. English Milds, Vienna Lagers etc.

4 Quarters was a suprise for me when I visited a few weeks ago seeing as id never heard anything about them. Their sumac sour sure was "different".
