Didn't see a new thread started but the 2019 one is locked down so... Smog had a big 2019. Excited to see what they do in 2020. Infinite Wishes day was this past Saturday. IW 2020 plus 4 variants--Double Barrel, Coconut & Vanilla, Fireball, and Black Licorice. Managed to get the last two double-barrels they used for display along with 1-2 of each of the others (minus the licorice--don't like it). Nice event.
Went for IW day and I’ll say the coconut vanilla IW is the best variant they have ever produced. Couldn’t get enough and will be getting it on tap as often as I can. Really enjoyed the double bourbon and OG. Cinnamon was much better than expected with the “fireball” name, not sure why they used that instead of just cinnamon wishes. Licorice is liquid black licorice. Either hate it or love it. Not my thing. Overall another great year for smog and IW.
The double barrel IW isn't on untappd yet, so I couldn't read any reviews of it. How was it compared to OG IW? How was coconut vanilla compared to last years version?
Coconut Vanilla was the best variant they've ever done. I was upset I didn't pick up another bottle (I have a Double Bourbon bottle for any one that wants to trade a Coconut Vanilla). To be honest, Smog has absolutely nailed any beer with coconut the last year or so (Batch 1000 and Is Ticking Clock b2). I liked Double Bourbon. Seemed a little hot to me, but still good. I was down there on release day. Got there WAAAY too early and was second in line. Line was barely around the building at opening. I was not a fan of the licorice. At all. It was a fun day.
The double-barrel seemed more full-bodied than the regular but maybe that was just my imagination. Flavor profile ramped up with more barrel character. I agree that it was a bit hot so I'll sit on my bottles a couple months. Coconut-vanilla was as close to pastry as they've gotten, imo. Silky-smooth mouthfeel, TONS of flavor from the coconut and vanilla. I will NOT be sitting on my bottles of this one very long at all, lol.
I just opened a bottle of Double Bourbon IW. Whoa. When I had it on draft, I thought it was fine. Didn’t blow me away, but I liked it. Now after cracking this, I’m glad I got extra bottles. Delicious.
YAAAAAASSS!!! Chip Shot is still my favorite SC beer and they don't do it all that often. Even rarer to see it on for fills. Not BA, nothing terribly flashy here--just really damn tasty. Chip Shot is my wife's favorite beer from Smog. They had crowler fills of it a few weeks ago, along with Batch 1000 (which was stellar). I'll be picking up another crowler or two this time.
